Since the firing from WWE, the Colons (Primo and Epico Colon) have been rebuilding the wrestling promotion of the family. World Wrestling Council has really taken off since their return.
Before the Colons returned to WWC, the company was doing poor numbers, barely beating its competitors. Shows were sometimes canceled and in some instances, only 100 fans would arrive. Moreover, the roster was really weak, with champions that didn’t attract new fans or the old ones. Wrestling promotions like La Liga Wrestling and even CWA were beating them in wrestling quality and attendance. While the style of WWC was deteriorating, demonstrating and old school mentality that was not compatible with modern wrestling.
When the Colons arrived, the first thing they did was to modernize. Old stars were brought back and the Colons, including the former WWE United States and Intercontinental champion Carlito, became the main face. Bringing El Mesias and Mecha wolf 450 also brought a breath of fresh air. This made 2020 the year of WWC, with Orlando “Epico” Colon becoming the WWC Universal Champion and having a successful title defense against AAA’s Texano Jr. For his part, Primo Colon formed a heel stable after betraying his cousin Epico Colon. The group, The Dynasty, featured Primo Colon, multiple times Universal Champion, Gilbert, and former NBA and CBA basketball player-turned-wrestler Peter John Ramos. (The latter announced this week that he was leaving WWC alongside Apolo.)
As for their independent wrestling career, the Colons barely started. Their firing came at the height of the Corona Virus crisis. Recently, they wrestled for Coastal Championship Wrestling (CCW) in Florida, where they won the Tag Team titles.
When the exit of WWE superstars was announced, Konnan on a podcast said that he was interested in bringing former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush and the Colons. Konnan knows closely the Colons, as Carlito and he feuded in WWC. That feud is still legendary, the story featured a babyface Konnan falling in love with the Colon’s sister, Stacy Colon. When Konnan brought some mariachis in the ring to demonstrate his love for Stacy, he took a guitar and attack her, betraying the Colon family. The feud was money for WWC and the Colons.
With the current the Covid-19 pandemic, Mexican wrestling is still on a hiatus. Yet, many fans wonder if new stars will join AAA and their Tag Team division. The Colons will be excellent for AAA, they are great when put against great tag teams. Keep in mind that AAA has some really top teams, as are The Lucha Brother, Rey Horus & Australian Suicide, and El Hijo del Vikingo & Myzteziz Jr. Is highly probable that close to the end of the year, depending on the state of the pandemic in Mexico will see the Colons in AAA.
