World Wrestling Council (WWC), currently the biggest Lucha Libre promotion in Puerto Rico, announced in its Superestrellas de la Lucha Libre program that it was in talks for a return with the Puerto Rico Department of Recreation and Sports. According to Toledo: “[Colón and Jovica] are developing a protocol to work together with the Department of Recreation and Sports and its director Adriana Sánchez Parés.”
We contacted a WWC official to find out what date was being planned or at least what is feasible. The WWC official indicated that it would be irresponsible of him to provide a date and that they are just working on a second draft. In addition, WWC must wait for a microbiologist to certify the security of said show. (News have surfaced about the possibility of a return in August.)
The Colons in other interviews indicated that the plan prior to the pandemic was to offer a large event, which was not going to be their traditional Anniversary show (this comes later). Listening to the inter-lines of Orlando Epico Colon, it is understood that he was going to bring a big international star, in addition to his new pact with IWA PR. According to the WWC official, they cannot provide an answer about that yet.
Regarding the latter, the WWC could help her. IWA PR right now walks with WWC, due to the superiority in which the company of the Colón is, compared to that of Savio Vega. We have previously indicated on this portal that WWC after the great IWA PR event, Histeria Boricua, was the real winner. Definitely, the company with this alliance was going to at least place a minimum of 2,000 fans in a big show that involved both companies in rivalry mode.
Around international wrestlers or some great talent. We know that many fans have Invader I in mind. But, WWC has repeatedly indicated that there is no plan as of yet to bring it. In fact, they have not indicated repudiation of that idea, they simply say that it is not on the table.
The question one asks is, is this a good idea or not? Looking at the timeline, WWC has little space for this show, given how unpredictable hurricane season is.
The reality is, yes, WWC must return… When WWC is healthy, the wrestling environment on the island tends to benefit. In addition, they have a very good saga in their hands to spoil it. Nothing else with their television program, they could bring some income with the angle of WWC vs. IWA PR. In addition, this has been the best year they have had since their famous “Great Depression” in 2017. If they want to secure their position and deal a lethal blow to companies that remain dormant, such as the inactive WWL.
