AEW Releases Bea Priestley & Sadie Gibbs

AEW has been unable to use many of their contracted talents due to travel restrictions caused by COVID-19. They have a truly global roster, with talent from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, United Kingdom and more. This wasn’t an issue when you could hop on a plane and go to work with AEW, but this would really gut the AEW women’s division above all else.

They have now released both Bea Priestley & Sadie Gibbs from their contracts, but there is hope that both will be back in time.

Bea Priestley Was Ready To Go For The AEW Women’s Championship

Prior to being stuck in the UK with her boyfriend, Will Ospreay, Bea Priestley was set for some big things in AEW. She was aiming herself at then AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose, looking to claim the title for herself. This won’t happen now obviously, since she’s not with AEW right now.

Priestley understands however, and would thank AEW for their time with a series of tweets. “I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work on such a big platform with such a great roster. I wish AEW the biggest success & hope that everyone will stay safe & healthy. I will miss you all. But until then.. This is a difficult time for everyone globally, & I completely understand the circumstances that COVID 19 has presented. I’m sure once travel bans are lifted, you’ll be seeing me again on American soil.”

She would go on to give special thanks to Dustin Rhodes, Kenny Omega, Tony Khan, Cody & Brandi Rhodes, and The Young Bucks.

Sadie Gibbs Was Just About To Get Started

While Bea Priestley was able to make an impact in AEW, this is not the same story for Sadie Gibbs. The talented grappler made a few appearances, got signed, and was set to relocate to the United States to make it easier for both sides. This was just before everything got shut down, halting her move to the states and what could have been a major run in the AEW women’s division.

Gibbs confirmed she was released on Twitter, and made the following statement. Currently as for everybody it’s a difficult time. And I completely understand the reasons behind the release. I’m grateful for the time I had I just wish I had more time to showcase my character. Everything will work out. I have my health, during this time that’s important.

So at the end of the day, this is a roadblock for the two of them. It makes no sense for AEW to keep them on their roster right now, as they are unable to make it for shows. Both are likely to return unless they get a better deal from another company, so we can look forward to that. Would Gibbs & Priestley have made an impact in AEW during the last few months if they were around? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
