Sammy Guevara Gets Backstage Heat For Chair Spot On Dynamite

On this past week’s episode of Dynamite, we would see a wild brawl between Matt Hardy & Sammy Guevara. This would lead to Matt Hardy needing 13 stitches to close up a wound, a wound that shouldn’t have happened. It was caused by Sammy Guevara making a rookie mistake in the heat of the moment.

There is now reported heat on Guevara for this spot, but is this just building up this storyline?

Sammy Guevara Used The Wrong Chair During This Brawl

During this wild brawl, while Matt Hardy was laying on a table, Guevara would throw a chair at Hardy. The reported plan was for Guevara to throw a lighter chair at Hardy, who would get his hands up to block the chair. Instead, an ordinary full weight folding chair would catch Hardy in the face, causing this massive wound.

Afterwards, Guevara would hit a 630 senton off the stage to put Hardy though the table, before leaving the bloody veteran for medical staff to fix up. It was an effective segment, and one that was taped last week.

Worked Heat, Or Just A Mistake?

According to reports picked up by Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, Guevara had heat backstage for getting excited and grabbing the wrong chair. If this is the case, getting a stern talking too backstage is all that is needed. Mistakes happen in wrestling, and Hardy will be able to use this to build the feud now that he’s fine, stitches removed.

However, given that this was a taped segment on the show, some believe that if this was legitimate, news would have come out before the taped episode would fair. There is also that news from backstage at AEW rarely leaks out so freely, being fairly airtight most of the time.

At the end of the day, everyone is fine in the end. There’s no serious long term damage done here. If it was an accident, AEW should have only had gimmicked lighter chairs on hand for it to prevent something like this from happening. On a taped show, there is no reason to not take all possible steps for the safety of the performers.

What is your impression of what happened in this situation? Was it an honest mistake, or is this AEW looking to add more fuel to this feud? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
