What is a man to do after losing the NXT Championship and having the longest reign in the championships history? Adam Cole chose to show Pat McAfee a thing or two about professional wrestling, and an injury to new NXT Champion Karrion Kross could speed up a goal of his. Cole will be part of the biggest match in NXT history, facing Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa and Finn Balor in a sixty minute Iron Man match.

Adam Cole Had 396 Days As NXT Champion
Only having lost the championship to Keith Lee at the start of July, Adam Cole had perhaps the greatest reign in NXT history. Holding a championship as coveted as the NXT Championship for over a year is impressive in his own right, but it’s the quality of defenses that makes his reign so great.
Zack Gibson, Akira Tozawa, Johnny Gargano, Jordan Myles, Matt Riddle, Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins, Pete Dunne, Finn Balor, Tommaso Ciampa and The Velveteen Dream make up his twelve successful defenses. That’s a who’s who of NXT & WWE, with Cole having beaten them all. This includes the other three men he faces on NXT for the NXT Championship.
Is It Too Soon For Reign Two?
The only con to his victory is that his reign just ended, and Cole will have to rush himself back into a champion’s mindset. He was always going for another reign, but a long and well fought reign like Cole’s comes with some wear and tear. Cole was regularly in 20+ minute long battles, and that takes its toll.
He was not the champion we remembered at NXT Takeover XXX, where the rookie Pat McAfee took him to his limits. While Cole might have just overlooked his opponent on that show, we might have been seeing the after effects of this reign at play. With 60 minutes on the clock, and likely needing to get multiple pinfalls to win, Cole simply might not have enough in the tank to run this marathon.
