Right now, Drew McIntyre seems like he’s unstoppable as WWE Champion. He’s still involved with Randy Orton, despite not facing him again this weekend at Payback. Even if Orton gets a rematch however, it will be very hard to knock McIntyre off his perch.
This leaves the door open for a match he’s wanting to have down the line, that being against a former WWE Champion who is still injured. That is Kofi Kingston, who is currently on the injured list. Kingston & McIntyre have a history of great matches over the likes of the Intercontinental Championship, but could a match over the WWE Championship be in the works?
Drew McIntyre Wants This Match
When asked who the short-list of potential challengers for his WWE Championship included, Kofi Kingston would come up on that list.
“We tangled a lot during my first run in the company, and those were my favorite matches during that period. Ten years later, we’re older and wiser, and that would come through in our matches. Kofi and I would have something way more special now than we did before.”
Kofi Kingston Would Love Another Chance At The WWE Championship
Kingston would of course catch wind of this, and wants this match. His run as WWE Champion has been all but forgotten, after he was beaten in seconds by Brock Lesnar on the Smackdown debut on Fox.
”It’d be interesting to revisit because the story that we had way back in the day when Drew was the Chosen One and he’s gone on such a journey. Leaving the company, traveling the world, coming back and now becoming WWE champion. My story, we all know that and how hard I had to fight, and I think it would be very, very interesting. He’s probably one of the hardest hitting opponents that I’ve ever faced. I remember being in the ring with him at one point earlier in my career, and I was in the corner and he clotheslined me in the corner. I was like, ‘Oh wow, this guy. He’s got some power tools.’
Kingston & McIntyre haven’t had a singles match since 2013, with their last match happening without much fanfare. Would you want to see Kingston & McIntyre for the WWE Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
