Two weeks ago on AEW Dynamite, two women would make their debuts for the company. One was the NWA Women’s Champion, Thunder Rosa; the other being fifteen year veteran Serena Deeb. Rosa was always going to win this match, with it being a tune up match for her match with Hikaru Shida at All Out. However, this match was reportedly enough to get Deeb signed to AEW.
Serena Deeb Is The Type Of Woman AEW Needs
The AEW women’s division is best described as ‘a work in progress’ at best these days. They have a lot of young names, not too experienced within the ring, but having a ton of potential. Some like Hikaru Shida & Nyla Rose bring some experience, but others like Big Swole, Britt Baker, Kris Statlander, Anna Jay, Tay Conti and more are all fairly fresh by wrestling standards.
Deeb on the other hand, is a fifteen year pro. She’s never been a top name, but has spent time training young talents in the WWE Performance Center, her previous gig before getting the call from AEW. It was her first match in almost three years, and came back without missing a single beat.
While Thunder Rosa was on Talk Is Jericho, he’d introduce Rosa by saying she had a great debut on Dynamite in a great match against Deeb, and would go on to say he believed it got Deeb signed. We haven’t seen a “Serena Deeb Is All Elite” image like those for Tay Conti & Miro, but it seems likely.
Thunder Rosa Is Also Sticking Around For Now
Next week on AEW Dynamite, Thunder Rosa is making another showing for All Elite Wrestling as she defends her NWA Women’s Championship against Ivelisse. Her & Shida had one of the best matches of the night at All Out, and if she wasn’t tied to the NWA, she’d likely be signed right now.
For now, she’ll show up on a by appearance basis, and be carrying the NWA banner proudly. We could see her get another shot at the AEW Women’s Championship, another chance to be Double Champion, but for now she’s at the back of the line.
