Last week, Top Flight took the AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks to their absolute limits. After the match, they were attacked by TH2, who are just looking to get noticed in the AEW Tag Team division, and attacking the shiny new toys in the division did just that. Jack Evans & Angelico are now starting their warpath to the AEW World Tag Team Championships, starting with Darius & Dante Martin.
Angelico Has A Deeper Issue With Top Flight
However, this goes deeper than that. Angelico explained it best on Twitter before this match.
“At 21 yrs old I was robbed at gun point in the roughest part of Mexico City on my way to training with Negro Navarro. I was too embarrassed to tell him what happened and with no bus money I walked home 5 hours through the night. At 21 this dude signed a contract after a IG DM…
At 19 yrs old I worked on a building site 10hrs a day 6 days a week saving up for wrestling school and an international flight. At 19 this other dude signed a professional contract after a IG DM… Am I just jealous and bitter? Or are they really just that good and talented?”
Those two tweets should have been a promo on TV before this match, as without them, this is a simple exhibition match set up by a beatdown. The tweets tell the real story here.
So, are they just that good? I guess everyone will find out in the ring.
Maybe Top Flight Are That Good
Angelico would start the match with Darius Martin, and used his Llaveo style and reach to keep Darius under control. Darius would use his speed to get free, and be shoved away by the face. Angelico suckered Darius in, and wasn’t able to get the better of the exchange, with Darius getting two arm drags and an armbar. Dante would be tagged in, and a tag team assault on the arm would follow.
Angelico would put on the brakes as Dante had him run the ropes, taking out the legs and tagging in Jack Evans, who can match speed with both members of Top Flight. During a picture in picture break, TH2 would work to isolate Dante in their corner with submissions and strikes, really slowing the match down as they suited them a bit better.
Coming back from the break, Dante would kick Evans in the head and was able to make the tag to Darius. Darius would take Evans down with a lariat, and Angelico would be dropped as well. A shotgun dropkick from the top would drop Evans, getting a two count. Top Flight hit a double team powerbomb on Evans, getting a two count before Angelico made the save.
TH2 Go Too Far After The Bell
Evans would put on the brakes when thrown to the ropes, and almost was able to hit a German Suplex to Dante to the outside. Instead, he was sent into the arms of Angelico, before Darius leapt onto them, and Dante followed. Looking to capitalize, Dante hit a big frog splash, but a sloppy cover saw Evans kick out.
Evans is the type of wrestler who can get back into a match at the drop of a dime, and he’d flip off the ropes with a back elbow to do just that. He’d take Darius out as well, tagging in Angelioco and they’d hit an assisted 450 in the middle of the ring for a near fall. Angelico went for the Razors Edge into the corner, before being hit with a Code Red.
Darius made the save, before being taken out by Evans on the outside. Dante was stunned next, and Angelico applied the Navarro Death Role, cranking back on the legs and forcing Dante to tap out. Angelico held the hold in a bit longer and Evans stomped him as well, only letting go when The Young Bucks ran them off.
On this day, TH2 were better, but with Top Flight under the wings of The Young Bucks, that might not last long. Without the tweets from Angelico, I admittedly would have cared a lot less about this match, but they had me laser focused and made me love it.
