NJPW Best Of Super Juniors 27 Night Four: Ratings & Results [Hiromu Takahashi vs. DOUKI, El Desperado vs. Master Wato]

It’s time for Night Four of Best of Super Juniors, and now that we are a third of the way through the tournament. People can start to pull away from the pack and leave them in the dust. Everyone but BUSHI, DOUKI & Yuya Uemura has 4 points, with BUSHI having 2 and DOUKI & Uemura having 0. Who will break ahead?

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: Taiji Ishimori vs. Yuya Uemura

One side of this match, you have the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. On the other, you have a passionate young lion itching for a win. So on paper, Taiji Ishimori vs. Yuya Uemura feels like a complete mismatch, but this could result in the biggest win in Uemura’s career, and one of the biggest upsets of the year.

As expected, this match was heavy on the fundamental side of things, lots of good chain wrestling and simple moves. Ishimori had a clear edge throughout, Uemura had a few nice bursts where he took Ishimori near his limits, and then Ishimori closed it out with a Omoplata. It wasn’t flashy, but it’s hard to deny just how good this current crop of Young Lions are. Ishimori moves to 6 points, Uemura remains at 0.

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: BUSHI vs. Robbie Eagles

The last time BUSHI met Robbie Eagles, Eagles ended up with a face full of black mist. Needless to say, revenge has been on the mind of Eagles since then, and tonight he gets the chance to both get said revenge, while also moving ahead in this tournament. Will BUSHI strike again?

We saw the usual strategys from both men in this match. Eagles targeted the leg, while BUSHI targeted the neck. There was no mist used, as spitting on an opponent in the current global landscape would not go over well, but BUSHI was able to survive the kneebar and hit the codebreaker to put Eagles away in an unremarkable but otherwise fun matchup. BUSHI moves to 6 points, and Eagles stays at 0.

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: Hiromu Takahashi vs. DOUKI

Having made his way to Mexico himself and worked his way up through the ranks, DOUKI has a hatred towards people like Hiromu Takahashi who took his excursion to Mexico and was given a red carpet treatment upon his return. That being said, Takahashi had a very successful run in Mexico, and that might give him a bit more respect from DOUKI. This is a first time singles meeting, but with DOUKI at 0 points and Takahashi battered following his match with El Desperado, this might be an upset win in the making.

Any illusions of respect between DOUKI & Hiromu were gone from the moment DOUKI hit a sneak attack. From that point onwards, he dictated a breakneck pace, bringing out the barely hidden daredevil in Hiromu. If there wasn’t respect before this 15 minute war, there is now. They absolutely tore into each other, and we got to see what DOUKI can do in a top level singles match.

He threw everything he had at Hiromu, and got some incredibly close falls, especially with a Gory Special Spinebuster, which just compressed Hiromu. In the end Hiromu slipped away with a win after nailing the Time Bomb. This puts Hiromu Takahashi to 6 points, while DOUKI remains at 0.

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: Ryusuke Taguchi vs. SHO

Taguchi was one of the men who helped turn SHO into the successful wrestler he is today, during his time as a Young Lion. He holds a 1-0 record in BoSJ over SHO as well, and this could be the time for SHO to show he’s truly evolved to the point where he can stand out on his own. Taguchi certainly didn’t teach SHO everything he knew however, and we can look forward to a great match here.

The first five minutes of this match were a completely comedic affair, with Taguchi having SHO run the ropes and ending up dizzy watching him run, and SHO literally kicking the ass of Taguchi with him then firing. That would bleed into the second half of the match, where it was more in SHO’s house of pure wrestling, and he’d work past a hurt ankle after ending up in the ankle lock to nail Shock Arrow. A solid affair, which puts SHO to 6 points, while Taguchi remains at 4.

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: El Desperado vs. Master Wato

In his first main event singles match ever, Master Wato faces the devious El Desperado. Wato had a fantastic early run beating DOUKI & Uemura, before losing to the devious rear end of Taguchi. Meanwhile, Desperado is hot off a victory over Hiromu Takahashi, which saw the use of a steel chair. Who will win this match and move forward?

Desperado would kick this match off by doing everything he could to cheat, from throwing Wato into the guardrail and using the bell hammer, before going to work on the knee of Wato. However, when Numbero Dos didn’t get the submission, and Wato was able to endure a low blow to escape Pinche Loco, he’d nab a creative roll up win. This puts Master Wato to 6 points, while Taguchi remains at 4.
