NJPW Best Of Super Juniors 27 Results & Ratings: Night Two [Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Taiji Ishimori, El Desperado vs. Hiromu Takahashi]

Best Of Super Juniors got off to a great start a few nights ago, but the best is yet to come for this time honored tournament. There are many stacked nights of action to come, and tonight is one of them. Let’s not waste any time, and get into what this show had to offer! Who will move closer to a win?

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: BUSHI vs. Yuya Uemura

Hope for Yuya Uemera winning even a single match in this tournament is low, as the Young Lion faces a series of veterans. He barely stood a chance against Master Wato, and now he has to face the crafty and experienced BUSHI, who needs his first win.

Uemera came in with all the expected babyface fire a Young Lion brings, and took BUSHI to his limits. There was heavy focus on the Boston Crab, traditional finisher of the Young Lions. BUSHI wanted to humble Uemera with it, Uemera wanted to humiliate BUSHI with it. In the end, neither man would tap out, instead BUSHI would avoid the Double Underhook Suplex and take Uemea out with the MX.

This puts BUSHI to two points, a good start, and a much better match than expected.

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: Robbie Eagles vs. Master Wato

Master Wato has been under the learning tree of Hiroyoshi Tenzan since he got back to NJPW, and that’s paying off thus far. Granted, his first match was against Uemura, and now comes a real test in the form of Robbie Eagles. Both enter this match with a win, and it’s a first time encounter to boot! This might be the major showing both men need.

Simply put, this match was incredible. Both men went all out from the word go, yet managed to slowly build up an epic encounter. Eagles tried to use the same tactics as his last match and take out the leg of Master Wato, but Wato survived the submission attempts. When Eagles looked to soar, he’d meet the knees of Wato, be dropped with the Tenzan Driver which was followed up by the Sprial Tap for the win. Master Wato moves to four points, and is looking fantastic.

Match Rating: ⅘ (****)

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: DOUKI vs. SHO

This is a night of first time matches, as we have another one right here with SHO & DOUKI. SHO is looking to be the breakout star of this tournament, while DOUKI simply wants to hurt people. They have very little in common, this match is a style clash, which can often be the best type of match.

An early start with a sneak attack and some outside brawling gave DOUKI an edge to start, and even held his own when a more normal match began. SHO rallied back and went for Shock Arrow, but ended up in a unique submission hold and nearly passed out. He’d come back from the jaws of defeat, finally nail Shock Arrow and walk away with the win. It was a classic back and forth match, showed the DOUKI is better than he’s given credit for, and put SHO to four points.

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Taiji Ishimori

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori enters the second night with a losing record, and needs to fix that. Thankfully, he’s never been beaten by the crafty veteran that is Ryusuke Taguchi. They’ve met twice, and Taguchi has taken Ishimori to the limit both physically and mentally both times, but hasn’t gotten the win. Will tonight be the night Taguchi needed?

The mind games started early with Taguchi mocking the dancing past of Ishimori, allowing Taguchi a slighy advantage. However, it also ticked Ishimori off, leading to some outside brawling which softened up Tagichi for an in ring assault. Taguchi kept things competitive, even getting some near falls and surviving submissions, but a handful of tights and a rollup gets Ishimori his first two points of the tournament.

Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** ¾)

Best Of The Super Junior XXVII Match: El Desperado vs. Hiromu Takahashi

When it comes to El Desperado, he shines in tournaments. He always does well in BOSJ, and even had a great showing in this year’s New Japan Cup. Desperado comes into this one with a losing record, but when it comes to Hiromu Takahashi, they’re historically tied 1-1. Hiromu Takahasi lost their last BOSJ match, but was able to defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against Despy. Who will take the lead in their rivalary?

Desperado came into this one with a plan in mind, to slow down Hiromu Takahashi. He’d keep the pace steady, focused on strike exchanges and shots to the leg of Hiromu. Everything came to fruition when the referee was taken out, allowing Desperado to grab a steel chair, go to town on Hiromus leg and then apply the Stretch Muffler for the win. It was a perfectly set up plan, which gets Desperado his first two points.
