“Way to the Grandmaster” Master Wato makes his Best of the Super Juniors debut during Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27). Master Wato officially returned from his over two-year excursion in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in July of this year, continuing his path as one of the youngest New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) roster members.
Former four-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, twelve-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, and three-time G1 Climax winner Hiroyoshi Tenzan has taken Master Wato under his wing, helping him train before BOSJ 27 gets underway. The experience of Tenzan may help the young Wato perform better than he should at this point during his career.
Master Wato’s highlighted matches during the campaign will see him face “Sniper of the Skies” Robbie Eagles (November 18th), El Desperado (November 23rd), Bushi (December 2nd), and reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori (December 5th).
Master Wato is not expected to win the tournament. A top half bracket finish for the young junior heavyweight will go down as a successful campaign, yet he would like to build on the lessons learned from his Summer Struggle in Jingu defeat to reigning one-half of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Yoshinobu Kanemaru (w/El Desperado).
Master Wato will be looking for key defeats over expected upcoming IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship contenders to jump them in line. Individuals like CHAOS member Robbie Eagles and former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi are like to receive title matches in 2021 if they have a strong showing in BOSJ 27, if Master Wato can capture a fall over either, it will see his stock rise within the division.
