Ever since 2003, it’s become a tradition for WWE to pay Tribute to The Troops every December. In 2005 they were special episodes of Monday Night RAW taking place at military bases in Afghanistan & Iraq. We’d get some fun matches in front of a crowd of military personnel, a nice treat for those overseas protecting the freedoms of Americans.
In 2010, they decided to start doing the events in the United States like typical WWE shows, just with troops in the crowd. 2019 almost felt like the end of this tradition, as the event happened but simply as a house show that would be main evented by Seth Rollins & Erick Rowan in a Boot Camp match.
However, as announced by Ryan Satin earlier today, Tribute To The Troops is back, and will air on December 6th.
Tribute To The Troops Takes Over WWE Thunderdome
This event like many others in WWE, will take place in the WWE Thunderdome, as per the WWE PR twitter account. “The 18th annual WWE Tribute To The Troops will air on FOX Sunday, December 6, adjacent to Sunday’s regional NFL broadcasts. The event will take place inside the state-of-the-art WWE ThunderDome, and include servicemen and women and their families.”
We will presumably only have the troops there via the screens of the thunderdome, taking the spots of the usual fans for the event. This is a safe way to keep the spirit of this event alive in bleak times, and could be a nice little morale boost across the board. WWE does a lot of wrong, but their dedication to the troops and veterans of the United States is sobering at times.
A Chance For Lacey Evans To Play Host?
While these shows are often dull events that aren’t worth watching, it doesn’t have to be that way. They could make it feel like a big deal, a major annual celebration, and one way to do that is attach a host to the event. Who better for that role than the former Marine Military Police member, Lacey Evans. A large part of her gimmick is being a patriot, and that alone makes her a perfect Tribute To The Troops host.
WWE already has a wheel made up for Halloween Havoc, and by swapping out the horror themed matches for that of more military focused matches, WWE could throw a slew of fun gimmick matches into the mix. This is a chance for people to kick back and enjoy life, and to be the best Tribute To The Troops since 2008.
Should Lacey Evans host Tribute To The Troops? Will it be another must skip event from WWE? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
