On November 25th New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented Best of the Super Juniors (BOSJ 27) from the Tokki Messe in Niigata, Japan in front of 887 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, but the crowd was noticeable throughout the event.
The opening series match of the event saw former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, BOSJ 25 (2018) winner, and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi take on NJPW Noge Dojo Young Lion Yuya Uemura.
Hiromu came into the match after defeating Suzuki-Gun member Douki on November 23rd, while Uemura lost to reigning two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori on the same night.
Uemura gave Hiromu more than the LIJ member was likely expecting, pushing forward and wrestling an aggressive match against the former champion and trophy winner. However, Hiromu’s experience and diverse skill set allowed him to beat back the Young Lion’s advance at every turn. Yet, Uemura was able to get Hiromu in trouble at several points, even getting a near fall with a front cradle.
In the end, Hiromu proved to have a bit too much for Uemura to handle and gained the submission fall at the 10 minutes and 43 seconds mark with a Full Crab. The victory moved Hiromu’s BOSJ 27 record to (4-1) [8 points] while Uemura’s fell to (0-5) [0 points].
Hiromu would go on to face CHAOS member “Sniper of the Skies” Robbie Eagles on November 29th, while Uemura faced “Funky Weapon” Ryusuke Taguchi on the same night.
The result for Hiromu his BOSJ 27 campaign right where he would like it to be; at the top of the series table. If he keeps his form he will have the opportunity to wrestle in the BOSJ 27 Finals and win his second trophy in NJPW.
