Moments After The Beginning Of The November 28, 2020 World Tag League 2020 Match Between Tomohiro Ishii/Toru Yano And Jeff Cobb/Great-O-Khan via New Japan Pro Wrestling

On November 28th New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) from the Fujisawa City Akibadai Cultural Gymnasium in Niigata, Japan in Kanagawa, Japan in front of 1,051 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, yet the crowd was lively throughout, providing a great atmosphere.

The opening series match of the event saw former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, CHAOS members, and one-third of the reigning NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions “Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii and Toru Yano team up against Empire members Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan. The CHAOS team came into the match with a victory over Bullet Club members former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) on November 24th, while the Empire team lost to Suzuki-Gun members and reigning IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr/Taichi) on the same night.

A win for either team would move them to 4-2, placing them in good standing within the WTL 2020 table as the tournament heads to its final stretch. Cobb/O-Khan got the early jump on their opponents, opposing the physical nature of the tag team as they took the early advantage.

However, as they have throughout the tournament, Ishii/Yano managed to stage a comeback despite dealing with the impressive Empire team. Yano would gain the fall over O-Khan at the 13 minutes and 29 seconds mark with a Vertical Cradle to move his team to (4-2) [8 points] while Cobb/O-Khan fell to (3-3) [6 points].

The CHAOS team would go on to face HenarAce (Hiroshi Tanahashi/Toa Henare) on November 30th, while Cobb/O-Khan faced the Bullet Club team of Evil/Yujiro on the same night.

The former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships proved themselves to be legitimate WTL 2020 trophy contenders with the victory, and remained a tough team to deal with through bracket action.
