We’re back in Royal Rumble season, and since 2018 there have been two of the titular matches to look forward too. The women of WWE have finally gotten their chance to shine in the epic battle royal format, and this has made for some special, generation bridging moments. One of those came in the first edition of the match, when fans got to see Sasha Banks & Trish Stratus lock up for the first time ever. It was only a brief tease, and Stratus is itching for more.
Trish Stratus Wants Sasha Banks
While on the POST Wrestling Christmas Show, Trish Stratus would mention how she wants to work some a specific wrestler, that being Sasha Banks.
“I mean, I think Sasha Banks and I might have some unfinished business and I say this with much love and respect. It’s like this moment we had at the Royal Rumble so many years ago; it seems like so many years ago now. It’s just like, people have held onto that moment and I watch it back. It’s undeniable that there’s definitely this intangible… this energy between us that — it’s a rare thing sometimes that two superstars get in there and you’re like, ‘Ooouuu, I like this,’ and you know, so I respect her so much as a worker, as a person, as a friend and so yeah, I think as a fan and personally, I think that would be an interesting thing to pursue, possibly at some point. Maybe possibly down the line at some point.”
Given how these two are perhaps the best of their respective generations, and how Banks was inspired in part by Stratus, that could be a very special match.
Retirement Means Very Little In Professional Wrestling
Back at Summerslam in 2019, Trish Stratus went out to the ring for an instant classic with Charlotte Flair. This seems like it was as perfect as a retirement match gets, with Stratus looking like a star against one of the best of the modern era. It was even in her home country of Canada, adding the cherry on top of this situation. However, despite the match being great, you could almost tell that the heart of Stratus wasn’t into it fully.
Thankfully, as proven by men like Terry Funk who have retired about fifty times, retirement in wrestling is just another gimmick. Stratus proved she can still go in the ring, Banks is perhaps the best in-ring worker WWE could put her with, and with the Smackdown Women’s Championship on the line? That could be a potential main event of a PPV with the right build up.
