The anticipation is growing within the WWE Universe as the Royal Rumble PPV gets closer. While there are two high-profile title matches already announced for the event, there is no denying that the matches that fans are most looking forward to are the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches.
These matches are typically two of the standout events of the year, with the road to WrestleMania firmly insight at the conclusion of the show. The last couple of Rumble matches have been easy to predict, but this year’s could have a curveball. Could there be a shock winner of the women’s Royal Rumble?
WWE News: Shayna Baszler
Shayna Baszler’s career on the main roster hasn’t got off to the best of starts, and she will be considered an outsider to win the Rumble this year. There is a feeling that the WWE could have missed the chance to push the former MMA star to the moon, as she was considered a leading chance in this match last year.
She is no longer the dominant force that she was when she stepped up to the main roster, and a Rumble win could put her back on course to rewrite history. There is certainly a story to tell with Asuka, which means that it wouldn’t be the worst booking decision that the company could make.
WWE News: Ronda Rousey
We haven’t seen Ronda Rousey in a WWE ring for a while now, but she remains among the favourites in the betting for this year’s event. Rousey has reportedly been training in the ring again, but with her contract running down with the company, there is confusion regarding whether we will eventually see her back on Raw or SmackDown.
There will certainly be an appetite to get Rousey back for Mania this year, as she remains one of the biggest female stars signed to the company. Never say never, but a Rousey win in the Rumble looks very unlikely at present.
WWE News: Sonya Deville
Sonya Deville’s odds to win the Rumble have shortened over the past couple of weeks, as she made her long awaited return on SmackDown last week. It still isn’t clear what position Deville will be occupying now she has returned, with some indicating that she could become general manager of the blue brand.
However, Deville would be a welcome winner of the Rumble, and there is no doubting that she has the in-ring skills to test Sasha Banks for the Women’s Championship should she be crowned winner at the end of January.
