Sha Samuels did not have the NXT UK debut he wanted. He was brought in as Ed Harvey, but rejected that name midway through his debut match with Joe Coffey. Now, he’s Sha Samuels again, the respected and hard working veteran of the UK wrestling scene. He will meet the high flying Josh Morrell tonight, to prove he’s not just all hype.
Josh Morrell Shows His Speed
After losing his debut match, Samuels was determined to beat the rookie put infront of him. He’d drive him into the corner and mock him on the opening lockup, before applying a headlock. A snapmare sent Morrell to the mat, before he’d snatch the arm of Samuels. The knee of Samuels broke the wrist lock, before he’d gain wrist control. Morrell showed his speed and cartwheeled to break the hold, only to be slammed into the mat.
Samuels would be caught in the corner by Morrell popping over his head and getting an armdrag. Morrell paid for this with some mounted punches on the mat. When he was back to his feet, he was launched with a back body drop, taking a nasty landing upon meeting the mat again.
Sha Samuels Is Never To Be Overlooked
Samuels would follow that up with a stiff kick to the spine. Morrell tried to use the ropes to get up, before taking a hip drop right to the back. More clubbing blows followed, before Morrell was able to get some speed behind him for a crossbody, but was caught in a scoop slam. Samuels missed the elbow drop, and Morrell had his best opening. A single leg dropkick dropped Samuels, and Morrell kept the pressure up with a dropsault into a standing sky twister, getting a two count.
Samuels sent him into the corner, but he backflipped off the corner, hit a hip toss right into a pinfall attempt! Morrell was doing great, until being beheaded with a lariat from the East Ender Butcher. A big spinebuster followed by the head & arm choke on the mat won this one for Sha Samuels.
Sha Samuels was the clear winner coming into this match, but the performance from Morrell had me convinced at times that he would be able to pull off the upset. This was close to being a star making performance for Morrell, and it’d be nice to see what he can do with other high fliers like Ben Carter or Mark Andrews. Samuels got the big win, and will fit into the hard hitting midcard scene with Joe Coffey & Rampage Brown perfect. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
