WWE Smackdown Preview is all set for tonight’s show that looks eerily similar to what we saw a couple of weeks ago.

While redundancy is expected in a business that relies on 24/7 storytelling (just look at soap operas), it feels like the WWE has relied on it more than not in recent weeks and months.

This doesn’t mean it won’t work as most of the matches the last few months have been good to great and they’ve bailed out the lackluster storytelling.

Intercontinental Championship – Big E (c) vs. Apollo Crews

Their match two weeks ago ended in a good twist when they pinned each other resulting in a draw, but Crews wanted it to continue.

So he slapped Big E and Big E beat him pretty quickly in the immediate rematch.

Personally, we think this would’ve worked better had they forgone the rematch as that would’ve allowed Crews to stew and fester instead of losing straight up.

But now Crews is taking advice from Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman, similar to what Big E had done, and he’s going into this match with a new attitude.

It’s reasonable to expect some kind of help to come Crews’ way, but that’s not Reigns’ style unless it’s to help him or send a message.

This will be a straight one on one match where Crews will have to prove himself and while it’ll be a good one, we expect Big E to come out the winner.

Kevin Owens to address Roman Reigns

Another repeat we’ve seen half a dozen times before, and we expect nothing different here as Owens will call Reigns out for trying to injure him and end his career.

We expect Owens will say he learned from the experience, but Reigns won’t like what he learned.

This could mark the coming together of Owens and Daniel Bryan that was teased a couple of months back, or Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro could join in, outnumbering the Bloodline until another surprise comes out.

There’s also the possibility that Adam Pearce has something more up his sleeve to put Reigns in his place. This should be a fun segment.

Owens has done a phenomenal job of selling for Reigns and it’s really put Reigns’ heel persona over and made it more fun to watch.

Hopefully, we’ll see more of the same tonight as they continue proving they’re better than many believed.

Obstacle Course – Bianca Belair vs. Bayley

    Oh, nothing special over here…

    — Bianca Belair (@BiancaBelairWWE) January 21, 2021

This is one of the goofiest things we’ve seen lately and that’s saying something.

This came about during Bayley’s new segment “Ding Dong! Hello!” where she had Belair as a guest.

Their exchanges remained more pleasant that we expected and Bayley didn’t attack her, signaling a possible face turn for her.

But more than that, since Belair hasn’t been able to defeat Bayley in other avenues, so Bayley challenged her to an obstacle course.

Since part of Belair’s build up as the EST of WWE saw her defeated Performance Center competitors with ease in largely cinematic style segments, she’s expected to win this.

This is just a reason to have Bayley attack her and build tension for their inevitable showdown in the Royal Rumble.

They may even have a match next week to determine which one of them remains in the Rumble. At this point, anything that seems odd is expected.

Kinda like how some can announce their entrance into the Royal Rumble while others like AJ Styles have to fight to keep their spot each week.

Which segment are you looking forward to tonight? Let WWE Smackdown Preview know in the comments below, and we’ll see you at WWE Smackdown Live Results at 8 p.m. EST.
