Arn Anderson has spoken on how he views the current wrestling world with some positive and negative observations.
Arn Anderson Gives His View On The Wrestling Scene
In a frank and open interview on his Ask Arn Anything show, he revealed how Japan is offering new avenues for wrestling. He said: “Absolutely. 100%. I truly believe that one year ago, or a little more, AEW went on the air and helped open up new avenues, new interest in the wrestling business, which helped Impact, New Japan, Ring of Honor, it just created a new interest in the business.
“I feel like New Japan, and their style and their television show is so different from Ring of Honor. Ring of Honor is so different right now than Impact. They’re all different from AEW. I think it gives you a lot more options and a lot more things to watch. There’s going to be some crossover talent on some of these shows, which makes it even more interesting.”
But things soon turned for the worst as he highlighted how fans had been taken away from the love of the sport as glitz and glamour have replaced the raw skill. He added: “I don’t know anything about Bad Bunny. If they’re not big fans, what are they doing on our show? Wrestling fans are dedicated to a wrestling show and wrestlers. They are not there to see Hollywood stars or anything of that nature.
“It’s an aggravation to them when they don’t know who it is. If I don’t know who it is, I just watch their performance on the show and critique it for what it is. Arn went on to criticise the bubble gum culture in wrestling as short term stars are being associated with wrestling for quick clout. He continued:
[Wrestling fans] get pissed because it’s downtime. The celebrities that we’ve had over the years had nothing to do with wrestling whatsoever; you can just see it from the fans. The fact is there’s a place, it’s called the rest of the world that’s not America, and if he’s a big star, there’s probably a reason for it.”
Arn is certainly a pillar of the golden age of wrestling, but with a comeback being impossible, we will have to just ponder over his wise words. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
