Tony Deppen made his long awaited Ring of Honor debut as part of the Pure Rules tournament, and fans were not let down. He made a second impact at Final Battle, when he pinned LSG on the pre-show to earn a shot at Dragon Lee and the TV Championship later that same night.
Deppen failed to beat Lee, but fans just want more of him. Tonight, we see him face off with LSG in a singles match, as LSG feels Deppen stole his moment at Final Battle. LSG has the power advantage, but Deppen might have more hunger in this match. Deppen still needs to prove he can truly hang in ROH, and tonight is his chance to do just that.
LSG Wants Deppen To Prove Himself
Code of Honor was adhered too, and this one got started. LSG took Deppen down to the mat, Deppen countered into an arm scissor attempt, before LSG applied a headlock. Deppen broke free and went for a dropkick, LSG dodging, before they’d trade fast pinfalls on the mat.
LSG was able to get Deppen out of the ring, but missed the shotgun dropkick through the ropes. He’d dodge a lariat from Deppen, before they both nailed a forearm to the jaw. Deppen was more keen to brawl, before taking a knee to the chest from LSG and was thrown back into the ring.
LSG threw Deppen back over the ropes, but he hit a shoulder tackle and almost got the float over German Suplex. Deppen was countered into a roll up, but sent LSG over the top rope and nailed a kick to the jaw. The PK was countered, and LSG yanked him down to the floor, where he hit a running neckbreaker.
LSG would drive Deppen into the barricade, and would have been fine with a count out, but Deppen got back in at 18. Deppen would be choked on the ropes, LSG not exactly showing a ton of honor in this one. After a brief commercial break, LSG remained in control, countering a sunset flip and looking for an elbow drop, Deppen dodging.
Tony Deppen Was Made For Ring Of Honor
Deppen took a knee to the jaw as LSG set up a Hangman’s Neckbreaker, and locked the hands. LSG couldn’t keep Deppen trapped, and he’d come out with an armdrag. Deppen threw one hand strikes before some kicks. LSG sent him to the apron, got kicked in the head and nailed with a crossbody.
Deppen hit a knee to the jaw, a running dropkick, and was starting to find his rhythm. LSG took a vicious double knee strike, but was able to kick out at two. Some hard chops to the face would come from both men, before LSG set up and hit the Rocket By Baby, before a springboard forearm shot for a near fall.
Deppen was sent back to the outside, and hit with the shotgun dropkick, before LSG set up a suplex on the apron! LSG be thrown into the ring, had his leg tripped and Deppen flung himself through the ropes before looking for a choke. Deppen couldn’t get the choke, but nailed a brainbuster and running knee for a two count.
LSG dodged a dive from the top rope, and nailed the pump kick before being hit with a German Suplex. The rollup got a two count, but Deppen kept rolling with pinfall attempts. LSG set up a spin through Gory Special Bomb for the win at 11:57!
An excellent showing from two of the budding stars of Ring Of Honor, with both men getting plenty of time to shine. LSG has proven he’s not just a tag team wrestler, and Deppen proved he truly belongs in ROH. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** ¼)
