We haven’t seen one of Ring Of Honor’s (ROH) fan favorites since they rebooted in late 2020 for the Pure Title Tournament. This is Cheeseburger, but we don’t call him that anymore. He’s now the World Famous CB, a ten year veterand and trainer in the ROH Dojo, who has wrestled in both the Tokyo Dome and Madison Square Garden. CB wants respect for his wrestling skills, so has properly entered the Pure division, where he will try to show exactly how good he is against Tracy Williams of The Foundation. Is this just a new look, or a new chapter in the career of CB?
World Famous CB Is Built Different
CB hasn’t had a singles match since 2018, and is in there with a man who reached the finals of the Pure Title tournament, only bested by Gresham. This is CB’s first Pure Rules match, but he was willing to enter the tournament, and is ticked off that he was overlooked. He’d find himself being locked up by Williams early with a full nelson, and broke it with ease before the standing switch led to his arm being trapped.
CB was able to break free, but was picked up off the mat with a Butterfly Lift and taken back to the mat for another armbar. He’d manage to turn the situation around, attacking the wrist before getting put in a headlock, and CB would just slip out. His lack of size is a benefit in the Pure Rules division, allowing escapes like this. Williams got the knuckle lock, CB headbutted the underarm and got the standing switch to apply a straight jacket choke and was sent off to the ropes, before we’d go to the commercial break.
Coming back from the break, CB was in control with a slingshot arm drag into a pinfall attempt, before losing control of Williams. CB got the La Escalara, tying up Williams and standing on his back, all 135lbs pressing down. Williams would fight off the rear naked choke, have his arms bent back, and be forced to bite the rope to use his first rope break. CB kept the pressure on with some strikes, before being dropped with a knife edge chop and a backdrop driver.
Tracy Williams Gets Scared and Tightens Up
Williams hit another big suplex, a jumping knee drop and got a near fall on CB, before having that previously injured shoulder attacked. CB went for a roll up, Williams countered and nearly caught the crossface, before CB used his first rope break of the match. Williams applied a one armed straight jacket choke, keeping an arm open to move into the hammerlock. CB fought free, only to take some heavy strikes and a scoop slam.
Williams was sent to the outside twice by CB who caught his breath, before taking a monkey flip into the short arm scissors. He’d roll Williams around the ring, and lock the hold in, forcing Williams to use his second rope break of the match. Going back to the shoulder with the double wrist lock, CB ran out the rope breaks of Williams, before taking a backbreaker into the angle slam.
A big knee to the stomach followed by the doctor bomb got a two count, and Williams knew he had just three minutes before the judges handed the win to CB. Williams was hit with some forearms and a superkick, but dodged the shotei and hit the piledriver for the win.
CB proved he can hang with someone as great as Williams, but the old finisher just won’t cut it anymore. This was another fantastic Pure Rules match, and easily the best World Famous CB ever locked in a match. Match Rating 3.75/5 (*** ¾)
