Georgino Wjnaldum wrapped up the win with six minutes remaining for the Reds, as they moved to within four points of Manchester City, who they play next weekend. Jose Mourinho would have been fuming with his Spurs side, as they were massively underwhelming in the late game on Sunday evening. Tottenham failed to stretch Brighton & Hove Albion as they fell to a second successive defeat. Brighton were rewarded for their excellent performance with a first home win of the season, as Leandro Trossard scored the only goal of the game.
The win for Brighton has moved them seven clear of the drop zone, while defeat for Spurs means that they are falling below the standard that is required of a team hoping to compete for a Champions League position. The one positive for them would have been the fact that the lead that Leicester City hold wasn’t greater, as the Foxes were well-beaten by Leeds United at the King Power earlier in the day. Elsewhere on Sunday, Chelsea also picked up a first win under Thomas Tuchel, as they beat Burnley 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
