It’s time for perhaps the hardest test yet for WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. He’s beaten just about everyone when meeting them one on one, but the Elimination Chamber is another monster entirely. Not only does he face five opponents, they’re all former WWE Champions.
Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton & Sheamus are all getting a chance to win the WWE Championship just before Wrestlemania, and they won’t treat that chance lightly. Everyone involved has had more experience in this match than McIntyre, adding to the challenge.
Jeff Hardy & Randy Orton Kick This One Off
After McIntyre, Sheamus, Styles & Kingston took their pods, Orton & Hardy would kick this one off. They had some heated clashes a few years back, including an insane Hell in a Cell clash. Sheamus will come in last, having won that right this past Monday. Orton started off well, taking down Hardy, stomping him into the ground and throwing him out to the steel.
Hardy was ping ponged off the pods, before coming back with a kick. Orton remained in control, grabbing a headlock in the middle of the ring, Hardy breaking free only to crash into the turnbuckle. Another headlock would be broken out of, and Hardy hit a lariat. An inverted atomic drop – low dropkick combo got a two count, and it was time for someone to join in.
Hardy & Orton were joined by Drew McIntyre, who got right to work on Orton with some punches. He’d drop him with lariats, before throwing Hardy with a suplex. McIntyre needs to start strong, and keep that going. He’d throw Hardy to the outside and hit a suplex on the steel. Hardy met a pod face first, but McIntyre was caught with a DDT as he got back into the ring. Orton regained control, and hit another DDT to the steel this time, as Kingston’s pod opened.
Kofi Kinston Eliminates Orton, AJ Styles Cuts The Line
Kingston & Orton have had issues for a decade, and would brawl it out right away, but a flash pinfall from Kingston took him out! Orton is out, and he’d nail RKO’s on Kingston & Hardy, while Omos ripped the pod of Styles open! Styles entered the match early, and went for pinfalls on both men, but only got two. Omos was kicked out, but already did his role.
Back in the chamber, Kingston hit Styles with tornado DDT, and McIntyre threw Hardy into a pod. Kingston hit S.O.S on McIntyre, getting a two count before Styles was back to him. A snug brainbuster got a near fall for Styles, before he just threw Kingston to the steel. Kingston used the chamber to his advantage, but back in the ring a DDT attempt saw McIntyre nail a big suplex. Another on the outside saw Kingston hit the steel chains then the floor.
McIntyre grabbed Styles and hit a big back body drop, before remembering Hardy exists. He’d stare down Sheamus, before hitting a neckbreaker. Sheamus would finally enter the match, and these friends turned bitter rivals would slug it out. McIntyre hit some knee strikes, Sheamus bounced off the ropes and hit a shoulder tackle, then a lariat soon after.
Sheamus Runs Through The Field
Styles & Kingston fought on the outside, and elsewhere McIntyre had his face shoved into the steel chains. Hardy crawled into the ring as Kingston dove onto Sheamus & McIntyre. Sheamus would get right up and throw Kingston off the ropes, only for Kingston to slip under the ropes. He went up to the top of a pod, but Sheamus followed. McIntyre was behind Sheamus, and crotched him on the top turnbuckle.
Sheamus was taken back into the ring with a superplex, but Hardy & Styles turned this into a tower of doom by going for powerbombs on McIntyre. Kingston did a trust fall onto all four men, before trying to pin them all to no success. Sheamus caught another trust fall attempt, and set up the Brogue Kick to eliminate Kingston. Four remain.
Hardy hit a desperate set of Twist of Fate attempts, before hitting Whisper in The Wind off the pod onto Sheamus & McIntyre. Styles was set up for and hit with a Swanton Bomb, before Hardy was taken out with a Claymore kick from McIntyre. Three remain. Sheamus nearly made that two with a knee to the face of McIntyre, but only got a near fall.
You Don’t Bet Against Drew McIntyre
Sheamus took a Glasgow Kiss, but still was able to hit White Noise. He couldn’t make the pin, but Styles hit a springboard senton for a two count on McIntyre. Styles set up the 450 next, but the champion still kicked out. Sheamus took aim at Styles, and set up the 10 Beats To The Bodhran. A diving clothesline would have been followed by the Brogue Kick, but McIntyre hit the Future Shock.
McIntyre set up Claymore, but Sheamus got the Brogue Kick, but in came Styles with the Phenomenal Forearm, leaving us with two. Styles set up another before being cut out of the sky with Claymore, ending this match. He was able to go the distance tonight, and will likely make it to Wrestlemania as champion.
Likely, But Not 100%…
After the match, Lashley would run in and maul the champion. He’s just lost the United States Championship, but is ready to move up to the WWE Championship. McIntyre was locked in the Hurt Lock, and slammed into the mat.
The Miz would have his music hit, and it was cash in time! After an Elimination Chamber and a mauling, it’s time for Miz to challenge. The knee was kicked and Miz hit a DDT, but McIntyre kicked out. Skull Crushing Finale… and this one was done. The Miz is WWE Champion!
