Grizzled Young Veteran have every reason to be upset after NXT Takeover: Vengeance Day, but they gave their best effort. Despite those best efforts, they lost their second Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in a row. At least this time, it was to a proper tag team in MSK, not a thrown together duo like The Broserweights. They’d still beat them down earlier in the night however, shattering Wes Lee’s hands.
Tonight, James Drake & Zack Gibson look to get moving once again, as they face off with the duo of Drake Maverick & Killian Dain. They were once a thrown together duo, but Dain & Maverick have earned their spot in the division as a proper team.
Grizzled Young Veterans Climb Higher
In the pre match promo from Gibson, Dain was called Shrek and that pissed him off. He’d start alongside Drake, and hit a shotgun dropkick, tag in Maverick and slam him onto Drake. Maverick would be unable to keep control of the situation, and Gibson took a cheap shot at Dain. Grizzled Young Veterans would look for a Doomsday Device, before Dain saved Maverick.
He’d hit a double chokeslam, and both Drake & Gibson slipped to the outside, only to have Maverick thrown onto them. Dain & Maverick were finding their stride into the break, but after the commercial break, Maverick was isolated by GYV. Maverick countered a diving elbow from Drake with a double knee strike, and getting the tag to Dain. Dain instantly ran through both men with strikes and suplexes, even getting Drake on his shoulders for a Samoan Drop, and hitting a Fallaway Slam on Gibson!
Maverick tagged back in and hit a diving crossbody on Drake, before hitting a series of low dropkicks. He’d miss a tag to Gibson, who quickly set up a Flatliner as Drake hit a dropkick. Dain saved his partner, before being taken out on the outside. Maverick got Gibson with a bulldog in the ring, but couldn’t get the diving DDT thanks to James Drake. GYV would hit Ticket to Mayhem, and get a step closer to a tag team title shot.
