WWE NXT Takeover Vengeance Day Preview [Finn Balor vs. Pete Dunne, Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals]

It’s time for another NXT Takeover event! While they don’t hold much back on weekly TV, Takeover is where the stars of NXT truly shine in some of the best matches WWE will usually see in a calendar year. Tonight should be no exception, with three huge title matches including Pete Dunne vs. Finn Balor, and both final matches in the Men’s & Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics. Let’s break down the announced card for tomorrow night!

Pete Dunne Looks To Prove He’s Better Than Finn Balor

The issue between Pete Dunne & Finn Balor is pretty simple. Dunne is sick of Balor pretending he’s one of a kind, that there is no one else like him. He’s walked a similar path to Balor, is as tough as Balor, while being about 10 years younger.

Balor looked past Dunne as a challenger, but won’t be able to do that tonight as these two UK greats go to war in what could be a Match of The Year Contender. Dunne has broken the fingers of Balor, attacked him with the help of Lorcan & Burch, but tonight, will he be able to break Balor’s reign?

Io Shirai Handles Two Top Challengers

When you’re on top of the biggest women’s division in professional wrestling today, challengers won’t always come one at a time. Io Shirai knew to expect this, having won the belt in a Triple Threat match, but tonight she has the odds stacked against her.

Both Toni Storm & Mercedes Martinez are easy fan picks for future NXT Women’s Champions, and tonight they both get the chance to make that reality. Shirai hasn’t had to do much on the build to this match, as Storm & Martinez have just brawled it out after Shirai costed them their first round Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic match.

Johnny Gargano Hates KUSHIDA As Much As He Hates Wheels

Johnny Gargano is in his third reign as NXT North American Champion, and has finally broken the curse. He’s been able to defend the championship, and gain a whole lot of extra confidence in the process. That confidence was shattered when KUSHIDA was able to pin him in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and then looked for a title shot.

After some backstage brawling, Gargano feigned an arm injury, KUSHIDA exposed it as fake. Now we have a dream singles match for Takeover. The Way could look to screw KUSHIDA, but only if Dexter Lumis doesn’t get them first.

Two Huge Tag Team Matches To Close Out This Years Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournaments

This year brought not one, but two Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournaments. The men got one like usual, but so did the women. Starting with the men, the debutting MSK (formerly The Rascalz) would defeat Jake Atlas & Isaiah Scott, Drake Maverick & Killian Dain, and Legado Del Fantasma to reach the finals. On the other side of the bracket, Grizzled Young Veterans tore past Ever-Rise, KUSHIDA & Leon Ruff, and the odd couple of Timothy Thatcher & Tommaso Ciampa to reach the finals again. MSK & GYV are two of the best tag teams in the world today, and this one should be something special.

On the women’s side, Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai took out Aliyah & Jessi Kamea as well as Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro to reach the finals. Their opponents are Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon, who knocked off Marina Shafir & Zoey Stark and The Way (Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell) to make the finals. Whoever wins gets not only a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, but goes down in history as the first team to win the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
