The last eight teams standing in the FA Cup went to battle over the most recent weeks, with places in the semi-finals at Wembley up for grabs. The match of the weekend came at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as two of the teams in the Premier League’s top four clashed for a spot at Wembley.
Leicester City were the side celebrating at full-time though, as they reached the semi-finals of the prestigious cup competition for the first time since 1982.
Soccer News: United Dumped Out By Leicester
United had gone into the quarterfinal clash bidding to reach a fifth straight semi-final under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, the United boss came under intense pressure at the end of the game, as many believed that he picked the wrong line-up to win the game. The Red Devils rested Bruno Fernandes for the trip, but were forced to bring on their top scorer when they were chasing the game.
Leicester were fantastic from start to finish, while United looked leggy throughout. The Foxes opened the scoring half way through the first half through Kelechi Iheanacho. However, United managed to punch back seven minutes from the break as Mason Greenwood scored for the first time since January. However, United’s performance didn’t improve in the second period, and found themselves 3-1 down with ten minutes remaining after further goals from Youri Tielemans and Iheanacho.
Soccer News: Chelsea, City & Southampton Also Make The Last Four
Leicester’s opponents in the last four will be Southampton, who eased through to the semi-finals for the first time since 2003 after seeing off Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. There was a gulf in class throughout the fixture, with Nathan Redmond scoring twice in the comfortable afternoon for the Saints.
Chelsea and Manchester City will meet in the other semi-finals. Chelsea saw off a gritty Sheffield United in the early game on Sunday, with Hakim Ziyech scoring a late second for the Blues in the win. City’s bid to win all four trophies remains on course, as they claimed a late 2-0 win on the road against Everton. Ilkay Gundogen scored the first goal of the game with six minutes remaining. Kevin De Bruyne wrapped up the win in injury time.
