Tyler Bate hasn’t had the easiest time since returning to NXT UK, but he’s not letting that get him down. He’s shrugged off his Heritage Cup Championship loss against A-Kid, and tonight enters another British Rounds Rules Match. This time, he faces the hulking Dave Mastiff, who recorded a KO victory during the Heritage Cup’s first round. Six three minute rounds, best two out of three falls is the way to go in this one.
Dave Mastiff Is No Slouch
After a quick fist bump, Bate would do his best to keep his distance from Mastiff. Mastiff would grab him and take him down to the mat, Bate being able to kip-up and break the wrist control. Bate would enter a test of strength with Mastiff, being taken down to the mat again and almost being pinned due to sheer size of Mastiff. First round would end without much progress, just both men feeling each other out.
Round two would begin with Bate going after the arm of Mastiff, before the big-man showed him his wrestling skills again. Bate would try to scoop slam Mastiff to break the hold, but couldn’t do it with one hand. Instead, he’d just wiggle his way out, before using his speed to get a Sunset Flip, getting the first pinfall! Bate leads 1-0.
The pressure would be on Mastiff now, as he needs to get two falls in a row to win… or a knockout. Bate would start to throw strikes with Mastiff, a quick punch here and kick there. Mastiff was able to win every time with strikes, as five of Bates can’t drop Mastiff, but one from Mastiff would floor even Andre The Giant. Bate showed his insane power by lifting Mastiff up onto his shoulders, but Mastiff countered into a crucifix pin to get the second fall of the match. They’re tied 1-1.
Tyler Bate Fights From Underneath
Round four would begin with Mastiff just throwing Bate around the ring. The crucifix pin did some serious damage to the neck, and scoop slams hurt the neck and back equally. Bate fought back with a dropkick, before being caught with a powerbomb.
Mastiff lifted Bate up and hit a Finlay Roll, Bate rolling outside. Bate would be mauled on the outside, and barely make the ring at nine to not be counted out. He’d come back in just to be hit with a senton, but able to kick out and survive the round.
Round five started with Bate on the defensive, and Mastiff just nailed some clubbing blows. Bate would slip behind Mastiff but couldn’t get the German Suplex. Mastiff on the other hand would throw Bate across the ring. Bate countered Into The Void with a Rolling Liger kick and got Mastiff up for a brief airplane spin! He’d come off the top with a Spiral Tap, and get the win!
