It was a fascinating weekend of Premier League action, with Manchester City being beaten for the fourth time this campaign among the standout results. The battle for the Champions League places in the league also heated up, with West Ham United claiming a huge win in the context of their season on Sunday, while Chelsea also kept pace with a win themselves.
However, the match of the weekend took place on Sunday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Manchester United won for the fourth game running, and maintained their excellent away record.
Soccer News: United Pour More Misery On Mourinho
Manchester United won the fourth consecutive time on Sunday afternoon, as they came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur. United felt that they should have gone ahead themselves early in the first half after Edinson Cavani finished off a piece of brilliant play. However, the goal was disallowed by VAR after Scott McTominay’s hand brushed the face of Heung Min-Son. The decision left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer raging at full-time, as he and Jose Mourinho exchanged comments in their interviews.
Son was the player that eventually managed to put Spurs into the lead, as he finished off a decent move with 40 minutes on the clock. However, the second half was all about United, as they produced possibly their best 45-minute performance of the season. Fred was the unlikely star to get them back on level terms, before an excellent cross from Mason Greenwood was headed home by Cavani with ten minutes remaining. Greenwood rounded off the job for United in the 96th minute, as the Red Devils closed the gap at the top to eleven points.
Soccer News: City Falter Against Leeds
City were beaten for the second time in five games on Saturday, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against ten-man Leeds. The travelling side went ahead through Stuart Dallas, before Liam Cooper saw red in first half injury time. City dragged themselves level through Ferran Torres, before Dallas scored his second of the game in the 91st minute.
Elsewhere, West Ham kept pace in the race for the top four, as they beat Leicester City 3-2 at the London Stadium. The Hammers remain in fourth, but are just one point off third-placed Leicester. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s win over Crystal Palace means that are just one point away from the Hammers. Liverpool also got a much-needed home win, as they came from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1. It was a pivotal weekend at the opposite end of the table, as defeat for Fulham coupled with a win for Newcastle means that the gap between the Magpies and the drop zone is now six points.
