Flying high after a strong performance against Pete Dunne and a win over former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese, Jake Atlas has every reason to come into tonight’s match with extra confidence. However, when you face Ashante ‘Thee’ Adonis, he will always be able to trump you on pure confidence alone.
It doesn’t matter if he hasn’t won a match in a month coming in, this man oozes charisma and confidence, which always makes him dangerous. With a new NXT Cruiserweight Champion in KUSHIDA after NXT on Wednesday, the rankings almost reset, making both these men extra motivated for a good showing here tonight.
Ashante Adonis Is Set To Become A Star
For the hundredth time in his short career, Adonis has a new look and gear. Wrestling in some expensive looking Adias is a strong move to make in itself, and they’d certainly make his Long Kiss Goodnight finisher more eye-catching. He’d start up with some kicks to the arm, before Atlas blocked and grabbed the arm of Adonis to start to take him down the mat.
Maintaining control with an arm drag when Adonis got back to a vertical base was a smart move from Atlas. An armbar was applied, but Adonis slipped out and hit a knee strike to the ribs of Atlas. Things got rough as strikes started to fly, before Atlas was taken down with a hard lariat. Adonis would focus on some strikes to maintain control, but Atlas has shown many times that he’s a hard hitter as well.
Atlas dodged a charge into the corner before hitting a hard armbreaker in the corner, before going up top to set up the Rainbow DDT. Adonis caught him off the top rope with the Air Drop, sending Atlas tumbling to the floor. Atlas was thrown into the barricades, and then hand first into the steel steps.
Jake Atlas Finishes Strong
Back in the ring, Adonis would look to submit Atlas with the fujiwara armbar, but Atlas was able to fight free. Atlas was thrown into the corner but fought out with a back elbow and some kicks before trying for the German Suplex. Some big uppercuts and a spinning heel kick set up the German Suplex for a two count.
Once again, Atlas would set up for the Rainbow DDT but was caught by Adonis who threw him to the middle of the ring and nailed a high crossbody for a two count. Adonis got another near fall before having a flapjack countered. A knee strike and front suplex drop from Atlas set up the Rainbow DDT, and this one was over.
Once Ashante Adonis hits his stride, there might be no stopping him. However for now, Atlas is the better wrestler and could be seeing a shot at KUSHIDA in his future should he keep getting these big wins. Could Jake Atlas become NXT Cruiserweight Champion?
