Shawn Spears has had a rough time making an impact in All Elite Wrestling. He was signed to the company early on, being around since before they started weekly TV with AEW Dynamite. His first feud with Cody Rhodes was decently well received, and his partnership with Tully Blanchard has gotten him into The Pinnacle, but fans still just see Tye Dillenger from WWE. However, he’s perhaps one of the hardest men to beat in AEW right now.
Shawn Spears Is On An 18 Match Win Streak, Undefeated Over The Past Year
The last time that Shawn Spears lost a match in AEW was at Double Or Nothing 2020. On that night, he was beaten by Dustin Rhodes in a match that more or less was a comedy skit, including Spears wearing underwear with the face of Tully Blanchard front and center. Following that match, Blanchard scolded Spears and told him to get serious.
Since then, Spears has had 18 matches in AEW, and hasn’t been pinned or submitted since then. He’s on an 18 match win streak, provided you don’t count him being eliminated from two chaotic battle royales. Notable wins include a win alongside The Pinnacle at Blood & Guts, and singles wins over Matt Sydal, Scorpio Sky & Christopher Daniels. However most of these wins have come from farming AEW Dark.
Should Win Streaks Built Mostly On AEW Dark Count?
Right now, most fans of AEW simply watch their weekly televised show of AEW Dynamite. This is despite AEW having two other weekly programs shown for free on YouTube, in AEW Dark, and the newer AEW Dark: Elevation. We see many established names in AEW use these shows to inflate their win-loss records, with that even being a major part of the recent storyline of Britt Baker.
Spears has been able to build an impressive record on paper, but when there are only 4 or 5 notable names beaten by him on this streak, does it really matter in the end?
