Despite what we last heard from AAA that perhaps Laredo Kid would be the one to face Kenny Omega at Triplemania XXIX. This came after former CMLL & WWE Superstar Andrade would call Omega out, and want his debut match for AAA to be for their top prize. We now know that Kenny Omega vs. Andrade for the AAA Mega Championship will be the match, but it’s not likely to be the main event of the event.
Andrade Is Going To Remind A Lot Of People Who He Is
This will be the first high profile singles match from Andrade in quite some time. WWE did a fine job cooling Andrade off in his last year with the company, as they failed to find a role for him. However, you just need to watch any of his work as La Sombra or his highly praised match with Johnny Gargano in WWE NXT to remember that he is actually one of the best wrestlers in the world today.
Putting him in the ring with Kenny Omega is going to put a heavy spotlight on him, as it will quickly become a match that people will look up even if they don’t frequently watch AAA or lucha libre in general. Add in that Andrade is likely to win this match and become the first to take a belt from the triple world champion, and you are going to see a lot of people remember just who Andrade is.
But Mask vs. Mask Matches Are More Important Than Titles
However, if you’re going to be watching the full show, don’t be shocked when Andrade vs. Omega isn’t the final match on the card. While a lot of viewers might tune out after it’s done, there’s one match that is bigger to AAA. In lucha libre, titles are great and all, but the real big matches are the ones under Luchas de Apuetas rules.
These are often mask vs. mask, and considering some luchadors will go their entire careers without showing their face? They’re a massive deal. In lucha libre, your mask is your identity, and a bigger drive to win than any championship. Psycho Clown is putting his mask on the line in a Luchas de Apuetas match against Rey Escorpion, who has his hair on the line. That is likely to be the main event match, simply due to the star power of Psycho Clown, and the fact that nobody even knows his real name, even after eight Luchas de Apuetas matches.
