Rankings have become an important part of Ring of Honor, with those determining who gets title shots and who doesn’t. However, unranked two men have a chance to join the rankings of his choosing out of the Pure and World Television Title divisions. They just need to be the last men standing during a fifteen man battle royale. The field was set to include names like PCO, Mark Briscoe, Danhausen, O’Shay Edwards and more. Who will be left standing?
Who Will Be Left Standing?
Dalton Castle was hanging out on commentary for this one, scouting talent in ROH. PCO was one of the last men to make his way to the ring, and the last time he was in this type of match was all the way back in 1993 in WWF. On that night, he eliminated Randy Savage and Jacque Rougeau. Final man in was Mike Bennett, who won an Honor Rumble back in 2014. Everyone else was already waiting around the ring, except Bateman who attacked Bennett from behind as he came down the ramp.
Bateman and Bennett brawled on the outside, while everyone else got into it in the ring. O’Shay Edwards & Sledge were standing out with a brawl, and as Dutch of The Righteous attacked Bennett from behind. A ripcord sidewalk slam dropped Bennett, potentially making him an easy target. Bateman & Dutch tried to drag off Bennett, and Castle noted that you can’t steal a human being, that’s illegal. A commercial break came and went, and there were no eliminations but Ken Dixon was kicked off the apron.
Hey Look, It’s El Generico!
Technically Bateman & Bennett were also removed from the match, but never actually entered the ring. Mark Briscoe threw Ryan Mooney out, and PCO got Eric Martin out. PCO & Briscoe faced off, as Danhausen looked for a double chokeslam and got thrown out. As he hit the floor, he pulled out an El Generico mask, and got back into the ring to get back in. El Generico entered the ring and gave an Ole!, before being thrown out. LSG eliminated Dante Caballero, and World Famous CB was shoved off the top rope by Joe Keys.
Joe Keys would next dump Mark Briscoe out, and Sledge would throw his rival O’Shay Edwards out. PCO malfunctioned and dove out of the ring through the ropes, before getting back into the ring to face off with Sledge. The two powerhouses met in the middle of the ring, before they’d choke each other in the middle of the ring. PCO would shove Sledge out, before LSG & Joe Keys dumped him over the top rope to win the match.
An incredibly basic battle royale, with some fun moments like Danhausen slipping back in as El Generico, and a stand off between Sledge & PCO. LSG & Joe Keys were a choice as winners for sure, and their upcoming match will be technically sound, but carry little hype. Match Rating: 2/5 (**)
