Travis Barker has spoken on how his near-death experience in 2008 changed his life forever.
What Happened During Travis Barker’s Near Death Experience
The musician, who is currently hooked up with Kourtney Kardashian, was involved in a tragic plane crash that ended up killing everyone besides two people. Things were made even more difficult, as the other survivor would go on to die from a drug overdose a year later. And the incident could have put an end to Travis’ career.
During an interview with Men’s Health, Travis said: “I was told I wasn’t going to run again because I had so many grafts on my feet, and there was even talk of me never playing the drums again.” Travis, for his part, suffered numerous injuries during the crash. His body had become extensively burnt, which kept him hospitalised for numerous months.
He would end up having to undergo surgery and extensive physiotherapy. But rather than follow the doctor’s orders to the letter, Travis resorted to throwing away his medication. Instead, he used his willpower. He added: “As soon as I could walk, I could run. As soon as I could move my hands and my hands healed, I was playing drums. And now I’m in better shape than I’ve ever been.”
Despite the physical return to normality, the incident left the musician with many demons. After all, every single passenger on the plane had now died. It meant that Travis had to carry the burden of those memories, while making sure that he kept himself together for the sake of his kids.
In addition, he was going through marital problems at the time with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler. The pressures of all this drove Travis to the edge. He continued: “We were each other’s therapists[the other survivor]…When he left, I was like, ‘Oh, f—k. I’m the only one in my club…And I find my ways to deal with it.”
Nevertheless, Travis has found some happiness in his life. His relationship with Kourtney is going really well, and his kids have taken to her. This has left fans wondering whether they will tie the knot. Time will tell whether they do end up walking down the aisle.
