WWE Wrestlemania Backlash Results: Rhea Ripley Successfully Defends RAW Women's Championship Over Both Charlotte Flair & Asuka

At Wrestlemania 37, Rhea Ripley made an instant impact when she defeated Asuka to become the RAW Women’s Champion. Now, she faces two rivals at once as she defends that belt under Triple Threat rules. Asuka gets a chance to regain the RAW Women’s Championship, while Charlotte Flair gets a chance to once again humble Rhea Ripley and become a 13 time women’s champion. This is a chance for Ripley to show all her growth since she was NXT Women’s Champion, and prove she belongs.

    Charlotte Flair Picks Her Spots

As this match began, they’d square off before Flair slipped outside. Asuka went after her, and so did Ripley. Flair was driven into the ring, where Asuka hit a spinning backfist, before working with Ripley to kick her out of the ring. Asuka got a roll up for a one count, before hitting a hip attack in the corner. Flair pulled Asuka to the outside for a fallaway slam.

Ripley would take some forearm shots from Flair, before telling Flair to prove why she’s a 13 time champion. A knee strike to the stomach was followed by a suplex, before she got stomped into the corner. Ripley threw Flair to the corner, only for Flair to float over to the apron. Asuka grabbed the ankle of Flair, and Ripley hit a running dropkick.

Ripley was making her way outside, and Flair nailed a chop block to her on the apron and took the knee out. Flair took Asuka into the ring and applied a chinlock in the ropes, legal in the no rules scenario of a triple threat. A boot to the face of Asuka got Flair a two count, before she’d fire Asuka up with a slap to the head.

Asuka took Flair down into a cross armbreaker, but Flair got free. Going right back to the hold, this time Asuka was foiled by Ripley who was back in the fight. Flair hit a backbreaker in the corner before driving Ripleys face into the corner. She’d go back to Asuka with some knife edge chops, before taking some short arm lariats from Ripley. Asuka took a dropkick, before Ripley took Flair down, spit on her and kicked her in the head. A northern lights suplex got the two count, Asuka breaking it up.

Rhea Ripley Won’t Give Up Her Gold So Easily

Asuka nailed a pop-up knee strike to the head of Ripley, before going after Flair with a set of German Suplexes. A hip attack to Ripley and a roundhouse kick to Flair kept her in control, as she kicked away at both opponents. A sliding knee strike to Flair got a two count, before Asuka went up top. Ripley was hit with a missile dropkick off the top, and a sliding knee to the head after she went outside.

Asuka was sent to the outside by Flair, who set up the moonsault press to the outside. Flair had to pick a body to pin in the ring, and chose Asuka. She’d set up another dive off the top rope, but Ripley stopped her up top and took her down with a superplex alongside Asuka. No one was able to make a pinfall, and all three would brawl it out on their knees.

Ripley would hit some headbutts, before working with Asuka for a double suplex attempt. Flair landed on her feet and hit a double chop block, before a double Natural Selection. She’d get a two count, due to a double pin attempt.

Heading up top, Flair missed a moonsault and took a codebreaker from Asuka. Ripley got Asuka from behind with the Riptide attempt, but Asuka countered. Flair got a big boot on Ripley, before taking a roundhouse kick from Asuka. Asuka was kicked in the head by Flair who fell to the floor, and Ripley hit the Riptide while Flair was down for the win.

Fast paced action from all three women made this a great way to open a PPV. Asuka & Ripley have found their chemistry, and Flair is playing the heel character better than ever before. A bad build left this match with little heat however, and the match suffered from this. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
