The Hollywood actor may be known for his star-studded movie roles, but not much is said about his community activism. While mental health has always been seen as a bit of a taboo, the actor revealed that being a father has inspired him to tackle such causes. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ryan stated how his daughters have influenced his approach to mental health.
He said: “I have three daughters at home, and part of my job as a parent is to model behaviours and model what it’s like to be sad and model what it’s like to be anxious or angry. That there’s space for all these things.”
Ryan, for his part, is a father to three children (James, Inez, and Betty) ever since he married Blake Lively in 2012. And it seems the actor’s personal life has shaped how he wants to bring up his daughters. The star has been very open about his previous battles with anxiety. In 2018, the actor admitted that he had been battling anxiety for most of his life.
As a consequence, he took major steps to deal with the issue after it became clear that it would start to have an impact on his life. This was most noticeable during Ryan’s career on sitcom shows such as ‘Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place.’ It was here where Ryan stated how he would often throw up before getting himself prepared to film those scenes.
During a prior interview with the New York Times, Ryan noted: “I have anxiety, I’ve always had anxiety. Both in the lighthearted ‘I’m anxious about this kind of thing, and I’ve been to the depths of the darker end of the spectrum, which is not fun.”
But with the star now happily married, he has managed to inspire others by showing that it is possible to battle those demons. The actor has never looked back, and his career has continued to go on strong in the same vein. It is great to see Ryan championing such causes, and long may it continue.
