Pretty Deadly have been NXT UK Tag Team Champions for a while now, but it’s time for them to finally defend their gold. They picked on Jack Starz backstage, and told him to find a partner to challenge for the belts alongside. Starz would get in touch with Nathan Frazer, and now he has a major chance to strike gold in NXT UK. It’s a first time team up, while Pretty Deadly are a well oiled tag team machine.
Pretty Deadly Are The Superior Team
Stoker would start alongside Starz, and drove him right into the corner. Starz was having a rough time getting started against the champions, being taken to the mat with a side headlock. Stoker was thrown off the ropes and took a dropkick and an armdrag once Starz got up, before he’d grab an armdrag. Howley would get a tag, and instantly retake control of the match.
Starz got a backslide for a two count before getting a desperate tag to Frazer. Howley would have a hard time keeping up with Frazer, and was taken to the mat with a deep armdrag. Frazer showed his downside as a partner, missing the blind tag to Stoker, and then losing track of Howley who yanked the ropes down and sent Frazer tumbling to the outside.
Pretty Deadly were getting rapid with their tags, and if one was taken down they’d get the tag and keep Frazer away from the tag. After kicking out of a pin, Frazer would leap across the ring for the tag, to Starz. Starz had a brief flurry of offense and countered a guillotine choke into a suplex, and Stoker would deceive Starz with a blind tag, before Pretty Deadly hit spilled milk for the win.
An incredibly average match that simply showed how good of a tag team Pretty Deadly is. They completely outclassed Frazer & Starz, and never risked losing this match. They’re perhaps the best pure tag team in WWE today, and have the size and looks to really go far beyond NXT UK. Match Rating: 2/5 (**)
Flash Morgan Webster Loses Sight Of The Real Threat
Lately we’ve seen Subculture on the rise in NXT UK. Mark Andrews, Flash Morgan Webster and Dani Luna have always marched to the beat of their own drums, but that won’t always sit well with others. In particular, Joseph Conners & Jinny have taken issue with them, and that issue moves into the ring as Conners takes on Webster one on one.
Webster took a wristlock early on, and was able to take Conners down with a unique armdrag and hit an imploding senton for a one count. He’d set a fast pace with a dropkick to Conners, before Conners would use his aggression and size to take Webster to the mat into a chinlock. Webster countered into a pinfall, before running right into a backbreaker, before Conners hit a quick snap neckbreaker on the mat.
Conners would send Webster to the corner, only to have Webster slip over the shoulders of Conners and hit some strikes and a back body drop. A springboard moonsault got Conners down, and a triangle dropkick sent him outside. Referee held Webster back, only to have him hit a Tumbleweed Senton over the referee onto Conners.
Conners was first back into the ring and got a near fall off a Small Package, but Conners hit a headbutt. Jinny threw Conners the helmet of Webster, but he couldn’t use it before being caught. A knee strike took him down, but as the referee got the helmet out of the ring, Jinny shoved Webster off the top rope. One Hangman’s Neckbreaker later, and this one was done with a win for Conners.
A brief but great encounter from two of the lesser showcased talents in NXT UK. Webster is as good as they come with highflyers, and Conners is a solid all around worker. Barring the dirty finish, this was a great little match. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
