The AEW Women’s division is slowly getting to the level that fans have wanted it to be at. With AEW Rampage hopefully bringing some increased focus to the division, they need their top stars ready to go. However, one name will have to wait a while before showing why she deserves to be champion, as Serena Deeb has now confirmed a knee injury.
Serena Deeb Explains Why She’s Been Off AEW Programming
Serena Deeb has quickly proven to perhaps be the all around best in-ring worker that AEW has in their women’s division, capable of getting a solid match out of anyone. Her time as NWA Women’s Champion really proved her worth, and a fantastic performance against Riho at Double Or Nothing showed how well she can control a crowd. However, right now she is unable to get into the ring.
She would confirm a knee injury with a promo on Instagram, where she promised to get better and claim the AEW Women’s Championship. It is nice to see her putting a focus on her promo skills while she is injured, as many have pointed out over the years that is a weakness in her skill set.
“Truth is, right now, I’m hurt. I’m injured. My knee has been playing up for a while, it’s been bothering me in my matches. I tried to fight through the pain. Was it the smartest thing to do? Probably not, but that’s what I do. I’m Serena Deeb, I’m from the old school. What I was taught is that if you can walk to the ring, you can step in the ring and do your job.”
Still A Potential Champion For AEW, When Healthy
While her old school mentality certainly helps to boost her image, Deeb made the right call by finally taking the time to heal her knee up. She missed time back in March due to issues with her knee, before getting back into the ring for some more matches, including dropping the NWA Women’s Championship to Kamille at NWA When The Shadows Fall.
If she is able to make a full recovery, she will be gunning right for the top spot in AEW. Right now, Britt Baker is the champion and is set to hold the belt for a while, but if anyone can trump her in the ring? It’ll be Deeb.
As of right now, her latest match was on the July 14th episode of AEW Dark: Elevation, where she teamed with Tay Conti to defeat Jazmin Allure & Vertvixen. Do you want to see Deeb thrust into the title picture on her return? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
