The AEW match with Nick Gage and Jericho has had a lot of criticism from fans and people in the industry. The reason for this was because it was a deathmatch that usually shows a lot of glass, blood and barbed wire. These matches usually have a lot of criticism and don’t show up on mainstream wrestling shows.
AEW has now put on multiple deathmatches shows that always end up having criticism, and they are not for everyone as they are very violent. They are not for everyone, but this is another style of wrestling that has become part of AEW. Criticism by fans is a given for this type of match, but this particular match has got criticism from Dominos due to it using a pizza cutter at the same time as a picture and picture advertisement from them.
Domino’s issued a statement
“We share the concerns expressed about this incident and the content of this TV-14 rated program and are assessing our advertising presence on it going forward.”
At the moment, there doesn’t seem to be any statement from AEW, but it’s possible that this could change whether AEW does any deathmatches in the future.
The matches do always bring in their own share of controversy. What do you think? Should deathmatches be on mainstream wrestling shows or be kept in the indies?
