Michael Bisping may love and respect Conor McGregor, but that doesn’t mean he minces words when it comes to the Irishmans’ upcoming trilogy fight.
When asked for his opinion on the match, he issued the following prediction: “I think because of the momentum and because of the recent knockout that maybe lean towards Dustin.”
Bisping Reveals His Prediction for Poirier v McGregor Trilogy…
Fight fans know that the last time Dustin and McGregor faced off in the ring, Poirier knocked the former two-division champion out in the second round. This was only a few short months ago, and Bisping is taking that into account with his prediction.
“The reason I say that is because they just fought, and Dustin just knocked [Conor] out.
Of course coming into this they are 1 apiece, but when Conor knocked out Dustin that was a long time ago. It was at 145lbs of course, so the ability to take a shot for Dustin is a little more improved.
We saw how he took the shots against Conor McGregor the last time.”
Dustin Poirier is the only man ever to have knocked Conor McGregor out in his entire MMA career. Both of McGregor’s previous MMA losses came via submissions, one to Nate Diaz and the other to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Although McGregor has been largely inactive in the UFC for the past three years, he remains the promotion’s biggest, and most unpredictable star. Bisping was not short on praise for the man:
“I know personally, to walk back into the Octagon and fight somebody who just put you out.
Knocked you out cold and left you on the canvas. To fight that person again, immediately afterwards, without getting a warm up fight with someone a little bit lower to boost your mojo and get the confidence back.
That takes a lot of balls. You know, so you’ve got to respect what Conor is doing here.”
When Nate Diaz submitted McGregor with a rear naked choke, it was his first ever loss in the UFC. Nothing if not stubborn, the Irishman took only five months to see Diaz in the Octagon once more, grinding out a brutal and bloody decision win in the rematch. Bisping’s commentary reflects this aspect of Conor McGregor’s fight game. He may have been inactive, but McGregor has precedent for returning to fight men who defeat him as quickly as possible.
Bisping’s parting word on the subject may be the most revealing of all: “You can never underestimate Conor McGregor as we know.”
