We’re on the verge of exciting times within New Japan Pro Wrestling. They will enter the Tokyo Dome soon for the third time this year as we finally get to see Wrestle Grand Slam happen. After a two month delay, we will no longer be waiting. There are five matches set for the card, which promises to be all killer, and no filler. NJPW has officially laid out the card, so let’s get into what could be one of the best shows of the year.
Wrestle Grand Slam Card Features Four Championship Matches
The one match everyone knew to expect is the main event. Ever since Shingo Takagi defeated Kazuchika Okada to claim the vacant IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and Kota Ibushi stepped up? That was the main event. Nothing else could possibly top it. Seeing Shingo Takagi main event a Tokyo Dome show is something many fans have only dreamed of seeing.
But a Tokyo Dome show is not the place to run a one match card. Starting from the bottom, we have a defense of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships. Champions Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo will take on the Mega Couches, Ryusuke Taguchi & Rocky Romero in what should be a fast paced match. Speaking of fast paced, El Desperado will defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against the returning Robbie Eagles. They last met in the 2020 Best of The Super Juniors Tournament, where Desperado got the win.
The only non-title match on the main card will be Kazuchika Okada vs. Jeff Cobb. In recent matches, Cobb has manhandled the ace, and even went as far to call him a Young Boy. These two can easily deliver in a big singles match, and Tokyo Dome with Okada not in singles action would feel wrong. Finally, we have a rematch from a recent tag team epic as SANADA & Tetsuya Naito defend the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships against former champions, Dangerous Tekkers.
This card will take place on July 25th, and can be watched via NJPW World, or order through FiteTV for 20$. Will you be watching Wrestle Grand Slam? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
