With Shotzi Blackheart now moving to the WWE main roster in a new tag team with Tegan Nox, Ember Moon is once again alone in NXT. However, this suits the former NXT Women’s Champion just fine, and tonight she will look to prove that as she takes on Dakota Kai in singles action. Moon recently took Kai’s close friend Raquel Gonzalez to the limit in an intense NXT Women’s Championship bout, and tonight will look to close back in on that title once again.
Ember Moon Takes A Flurry Of Kicks
Following an aggressive opening lockup, Moon would take Kai to the mat briefly. She’d maintain wrist control, before Kai slipped into a headlock. Moon would shove Kai off into the ropes, before taking her back down briefly before Kai drove her headfirst into the mat. A driving kick in the corner dropped Moon for a two count, before a scissor stomp to the back got another two count.
Kai would follow up with another kick and pinfall attempt, before Moon would get a two count off a roll up. A pump kick would drop Moon with ease, before Kai applied a cross arm clutch. Moon would finally counter a kick into a pinfall, and Kai would slip outside to catch her breath. She wouldn’t get this chance as Moon dove to the outside.
However Gonzalez caught the eye of Moon, and Kai was able to drive Moon face first into the apron. She’d attempt to throw her into the ring, but Moon used a spin kick to drop Kai, before hitting a sliding dropkick as we went to a commercial break.
Dakota Kai Claims The Win
During the break, Kai would maintain control using the ring post as a weapon. Back in the middle of the ring, Kai hit a quick suplex. Moon would rally back with an enziguri and hit a pump kick. A quick neckbreaker was followed by a high springboard crossbody which got a two count.
Moon went up high, before Kai yanked her back down and hit the running boot in the corner. A rolling reverse cutter planted Moon on the top of her head, but she was still able to kick out at two. Gonzalez would claim Moon is nothing without Shotzi as Kai went up top. Moon would hit a dropkick to Kai up top before, taking her down with a top rope hurricanrana for a near fall.
Kai would yank Moon over the top rope onto her shoulders, and nailed Go To Kick. She’s put herself between Moon and the ropes, before getting the three count.
Two of the best that NXT has to offer in it’s women’s division giving it everything they have is a great way to open a shot. Kai got a much needed win, and this was a fantastic encounter to get it in. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
Following the match, Xia Li would come to the ring to challenge Raquel Gonzalez to a championship match. Li has been on a roll as of late as part of Tian Sha, but does she deserve a title shot? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
