God’s favorite champion Miro has been an unstoppable force since destroying Darby Allin for the TNT Championship. He’s defeated all comers, from Evil Uno to Lance Archer. Tonight he will be facing Lee Johnson of The Nightmare Family, and on paper this is a total mismatch. Johnson is still a rookie, and comes into the ring at 5’10” and 180lbs, while Miro is a 12 year veteran with a nearly 100 lb weight advantage and is on the run of his life. It will come down to how much heart Johnson has to show.
Hangman Page Is Laid Out By The Elite
Before this match, we’d hear from Hangman Page down in the ring. Earlier tonight, he seemed to split away from The Dark Order. This came after being the man to fall last in the 5 vs. 5 elimination match, making Dark Order lose their shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championships. With so many questions left, Tony Schiavone would catch up with Hangman to get some answers.
Page would be a bit flustered, and before he could speak The Elite would be making their way to the ring. He was glad to see them actually, as he had something to say to them for a while. Omega would grab the microphone, and lead The Elite into the ring. He claimed Page was trying to get back into The Elite, but that is the last thing he ever wants. Omega and The Elite have thought long and hard about if Page would even fit in the group anymore, but he’s too much of a loser to be in their group.
Page would slap the taste out of the mouth of Omega, and would take a Magic Killer for it. Dark Order would come to the aid of Page, but Uno & Greyson made sure they followed the wishes of Page and stayed away. Kazarian would make a save instead, but the numbers advantage was too much. Page would get the AEW Championship to the head, and was left laying.
Miro Is Again Unstoppable
With Dustin Rhodes in his corner, Lee Johnson looked confident. He’s won 8 of his last 9 matches, and isn’t going to be pushed to the side tonight. However, Miro has been unstoppable, and has a perfect 11-0 singles record. This is gonna take a perfect match, and Johnson already messed up as he ran into a lariat.
Miro would start to maul Johnson with some heavy strikes, and it was already looking bad. Johnson would slip out of a powerslam and hit some kicks, before being sent to the apron. Two gamiguris stunned Miro, who still caught Johnson and slammed him out before looking for Game Over. Johnson slipped out of the ring, but Miro followed and kept the beating going.
Back in the ring, Miro applied a bearhug, and Johnson barely broke out and hit a DDT. Miro popped right back up, only to take a knee. This was his chance, and some dropkicks would send Miro to the outside. Johnson would nail three dives, before going up top and hitting the crossbody for a one count.
Miro would go for a German Suplex, and Johnson landed on his feet, and nailed three superkicks. Frog Splash got a two count, before he’d take the running thrust kick. Miro hyped up, and called for Game Over and it was over.
There were a few good hope spots here, but Miro never looked to be in danger of losing here. Miro would dominate 70% of this match, but sold Johnson’s offense perfectly. This was a well done match despite an obvious outcome, simply due to strong performances. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
