On the 500th episode of Ring of Honor TV, Mark Briscoe was the one who came out on top in a match with his brother. They beat the crap out of each other, and come out better for it on the other side. Tonight though, we will see if Jay Briscoe can focus on winning a tag team match as he teams with his brother to take on EC3 & Flip Gordon. Jay & EC3 last met at 19th Anniversary, where Jay came out on top after a twenty minute clash. Mark met Flip Gordon on that night, where Gordon cheated to win.
Dem Boys Are Back
The Briscoes had their old music playing as they hit the ring, showing perhaps an important return to form as they’re on the same page. EC3 shook both of The Briscoes hands before the match, the first time he’s done adhering to the Code of Honor in AEW. Jay would start the match alongside EC3, and be taken down to the mat with a side headlock takeover before being able to fight free.
EC3 was taken into a front chancery, but able to counter out into a rear chinlock. Jay would get free and tag in Mark Briscoe, who got into the brawling The Briscoes are known for. A running boot to the face would stagger EC3, before we went into a commercial break. Coming back, Mark remained in control until EC3 shoved him to the ropes and Gordon took a cheap shot.
EC3 didn’t exactly approve of this, and Gordon tagged himself in. Mark set up a neckbreaker on Gordon, while getting a quick tag into Jay who took Gordon to the mat with a running big boot. Moves like this are why they’re 11 time tag team champions. Jay choked Gordon in the corner, before getting a tag to Mark. A double shoulder tackle drove Gordon down, and Mark choked him with his T-Shirt.
EC3 Doesn’t Like Working With Flip Gordon
Some more stomps in the corner was followed by a knife edge chop that took Gordon down, before Jay was tagged in. Gordon was able to trip Jay up, and would drag him outside for a wheelbarrow suplex. EC3 was forcibly tagged in, but despite staring daggers into Gordon, would come off the apron with a diving knee strike on Jay.
Back in the ring, EC3 hit a scoop slam and an elbow drop before going into the front headlock. Jay broke free with a jawbreaker, but was taken down with a thesz press, and EC3 nailed a headbutt while Jay was down. A suplex from EC3 was followed by a blind tag from Gordon, who told EC3 to go away.
Gordon nailed a Falcon Arrow in the middle of the ring, before Mark broke the pin up. Jay countered a springboard into a spinebuster. Mark tagged in, took down EC3 with a spicy dropkick and Gordon with a flying cross chop. Gordon was dropped from the top rope with the Iconoclast, but EC3 broke up the pinfall.
EC3 took The Briscoes down with a double shoulder tackle, before tagging himself in off Gordon. Mark Briscoe would be lucid enough to hit a jumping forearm and set up Redneck Boogie for a two count as Gordon again broke up the pinfall. Gordon slipped a chair into the ring, and caught Mark in the face with Jay Briscoes chain while the referee dealt with the chair. EC3 dropped Briscoe with a reverse DDT, having no clue this win was tainted.
This one had some classic action from The Briscoes, with the added spice of unwilling tag team partners in EC3 & Gordon. Lots of intersecting storylines and some character development for EC3 is always fun, and the action was solid from bell to bell, and the ending sets up EC3 vs. Flip Gordon perfectly. Match Rating: 3.5/5 (*** 1/2)
