The Summer Olympics have been getting a lot of attention lately and so have the athletes that have been competing. One athlete that has gained a lot more attention is United States gymnast, Simone Biles. There has been a lot of drama about her recent ramblings on social media and even her stance on abortion.
Of course, this argument hit some people harder than others, but when she had to stand up for foster children based on a comment that one of her followers wrote, she stood her ground and chose her words wisely.
The Instagram Story
Biles posted on her Instagram Story about her views on abortion. She first posted, “I already know this is going to start the biggest argument and may even lose followers BUT I’m very much pro choice.” This is not the first time that she has spoken out on touchy subjects and her followers are pretty much used to her being so open.

She then talked to her fans about how she was a foster child and spent most of her childhood in the foster care system. She has been sharing her thoughts on this system for years now.
Simone added to her post after one follower argued with her that if a woman doesn’t want her baby, she should carry it to term, then put it up for adoption. She said to that follower, “it’s not that easy…foster care system is broken and it’s TOUGH!”
Simone and her siblings were all taken into the foster care system because of their mother’s substance abuse problems. She told her fans that they were hungry and neglected everyday when she was with her biological mother.
Biles and her comments on abortion got a lot of backlash from her fans. One of them told her that she is basically saying that “lives are worth nothing and they are better off dead”. Biles told that fan that they were just changing her words around and weren’t getting her views on this topic at all.
She wrote, “I have forever and will continue to support foster kids. AS I WAS ONE. I’ve been an advocate for foster kids and the system but you wouldn’t know that because you don’t follow me, you just like to open your mouth.”
The support that Biles has received from her fans has been incredible and it is great to see her speaking out about such hot button issues.
