While following promotions like Pro Wrestling NOAH can be trickier due them just getting their English streaming options sorted out – while NJPW is miles ahead in this regard. However, as they start to really find their spot on the Wrestling Universe streaming service, more and more fans are starting to realize that NOAH is legit. They’ve just had their N1 Victory tournament, with Natsuhoki Nakajima of the KONGO faction getting the win. The 33 year old would earn a chance for the GHC Heavyweight Championship, and is once again on top of this promotion.
Naomichi Marufuji Is A Legend – Making This Victory All The More Sweet
The match between Katsuhiko Nakajima & Naomichi Marufuji would take place at NOAH Grand Square in the main event spot. It was as good a fight as any of the matches from this year’s G1 Climax in NJPW, arguably as good as even matches like Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kazuchika Okada.
Marufuji is one of the most influential names of the 2000’s, with many stealing their moves from him. His biggest rival and ally was KENTA, and their matches were legendary. He recently claimed his fourth GHC Heavyweight Championship from Keiji Mutoh. In this match, he was taking the best of Nakajima – before finally falling.
Katsuhiko Nakajima Was Once Meant To Be The Ace
This is a massive moment, as back in 2016 NOAH was looking to usher in a new era with Nakajima as their ace. He’d reign as GHC Heavyweight Champion for 307 days, defeating the likes of Minoru Suzuki, Brian Cage, and GO Shiozaki before falling to Eddie Edwards. It was a good reign, but failed to move the needle. Since then, Nakajima has scratched and clawed his way back to the top of the mountain.
His match quality has been excellent, truly one of the most underrated workers in the world. Hopefully his second reign can truly cement him as a top star for the future of NOAH, and doesn’t see him lose in a partnership with Impact Wrestling. His first challenger is not yet determined, a loss to Mastao Tanaka in the N1 Victory might come back to haunt him.
