Gunn Club might not be the most showcased team in AEW, but they are one of the teams who are not easy to beat. Tonight it’s Billy & Colton Gunn, the latter has never lost a match in AEW. They have Bear Country to contend with, but it could only be a matter of time before Gunn Club takes the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Speaking of those titles, Jurassic Express are now the number one contenders – and Christian Cage seems to be sure he will have them win.
Gunn Club Run Away From Sting & Darby Allin, Bobby Fish & Adam Cole Are Best Friends, Dante Martin Joins Team Taz
After taking out Sting & Darby Allin on the latest episode of Rampage, Gunn Club are as relevant as ever – and a win here would just help. They’d hit from behind on Bear Country, before Boulder would slam Billy Gunn. A brawl on the outside saw Colton take control, before he’d run into a delayed Belly to Belly Suplex from Bronson. Colton would be able to catch him with Colt 45 however, getting a win!
However, when Sting hit the ramp with Darby Allin ready to charge down Austin Gunn – things got serious. Billy & Colton didn’t look so tough now, as they fled the ring. We’d get an official announcement for Battle of The Belts on January 8th, being touted as a Saturday Night Fight.
Bobby Fish & Adam Cole would be backstage and were pissed off over recent events. Best Friends would interrupt when Fish & Cole claimed to be best friends – before this one turning into a potential match, maybe for Rampage? Meanwhile, Dante Martin got an official contract offer from Team Taz – with Lio Rush watching over. Martin was seemingly interested, and would sign the deal. Team Taz has a top high flyer now!
Thunder Rosa Takes Another Step Towards Gold
The TBS Championship tournament rages on, as Jamie Hayter & Thunder Rosa battle for their spot in the semi-finals. Hayter has really yet to find that signature win in AEW – just being seen as the muscle of Britt Baker. However, a win over Rosa would get her more than that next stop. It will prove she belongs in AEW. Rosa is as tough as they come, and her destiny might be the TBS Championship – so Hayter will need to perhaps wrestle her best match ever to get the win.
Rosa has won 29 of her last 30 matches – and got a first round bye in this tournament. Hayter would rush Rosa as soon as the bell rang – initiating a hard lock up. Rosa would be taken to the floor, with Hayter being the one to hit the barricade before eating a flurry of strikes. Hayter would take the dropkick to the spine before the running spash to the back of the neck.
A big dropkick through the ropes was followed by a crossbody attempt off the apron, where Hayter caught her and slammed her off the ring post before crushing her onto the floor. Back in the ring, Hayter threw some suplexes – before hitting another scoop slam. Hayter just had to flaunt her power, but Rosa came in with a roundhouse kick before taking a spinebuster. Rosa would fight free of a single leg crab and hit a shotgun dropkick – getting a two count.
They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, with Hayter winning out. Rosa would apply the necktie submission, and Rebel ran a distraction as Baker got in to break the hold. Hayter would take a missed superkick from Baker, and get rolled up for the win by Rosa!
Thunder Rosa remains possibly the best all around name in AEW – and would claim another hard fought win. It was a brawl of a match, with Rosa once again foiling the plans of Britt Baker. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
