MJF had made a plunge to try to do the impossible. He wanted to break Darby Allin mentally. Allin is a glutton for punishment, but maybe the trick is to go after his head. MJF would bring up the tragic past of Allin, beat down his mentor Sting, and more. However, Allin would keep getting up. He’d never give up, and now tonight at Full Gear – MJF needs to try to take Allin out in the ring.
He’d never give up, and now tonight at Full Gear – MJF needs to try to take Allin out in the ring. As soon as MJF’s music hits, the crowd starts booing. The opposite is true for Darby Allin, who had a video emulating the car crash that killed his uncle and injured him. That is the reason he is half dead, and if that doesn’t kill Allin – MJF has no chance.
Two Pillars Of AEW Meet With Darby Allin & MJF
MJF would get some side headlock takeovers to start, but Allin slipped out every single time. Allin was dropped with a shoulder tackle, before catching an uppercut and going for a monkey flip. MJF landed on his feet and got one of his own. Both men tried for pinfalls, but bridges and kickouts prevented this. They were going hold for hold, dive for dive and move for move. They’re not among the pillars of MJF for no reason. MJF doesn’t wrestle often – but when he’s on, he’s on.
Allin would be sent outside, and MJF did some strutting before sending Allin back into the ring. MJF took time to jaw jack with a fan, and was dropped with a lightning fast dive. Allin set up a coffin drop on the apron, before missing. The back would be an issue going forward, and MJF would take advantage with a backbreaker in the ring. MJF would catch a Coffin Splash, and nail a backbreaker into a slam for a two count.
Taking Allin up top, MJF wanted a superplex, only to be bitten. Allin wanted a stunner off the top, and had to prevent an avalanche Tombstone to get it. It hurt his back as much as the jaw of MJF, it’s not called high risk for nothing. He’d nail a headbutt to the face of MJF, before looking to end it with Coffin Drop – but MJF simply rolled away and got a side headlock takeover. Allin slipped free, and took a powerbomb onto the knee of MJF for a two count.
Stealing The Show In The First Match
Allin would be asking MJF to hit him, only to have his fingers bitten. He’d slip to his feet, and catch the boot of MJF before a thumb to the eye. Allin was able to set up a Code Red, only for it to be countered into a Alabama Slam. MJF would apply the Scorpion Deathlock, but Allin would go after the knee with forearms, and once free nailed a chopblock.
Once the leg was sufficiently hurt, he’d apply the Figure Four Leg Lock, with MJF rolling to the apron to get free. Allin joined him, and MJF nailed a tombstone on the apron. Equal damage to knee and skull, this could be a double count out. MJF would crawl into the ring, and he’d take the win however it came, but Allin made it at nine. They’d battle for control of a Small Package, but neither man got three.
Allin nailed a picture perfect Code Red, but MJF was able to slip out at a two count after Allin set up Coffin Drop. This was fine though, as Allin launched himself onto MJF to the outside. A second coffin drop attempt in the ring was met by the knees of MJF. Wardlow & Shawn Spears tried to help MJF, but Sting fought them off. MJF would grab Allin’s skateboard into the ring, before telling Allin to snap it over his head. Instead, he’d hand it to the referee – as MJF armed himself with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. A punch to the face and a Side Headlock Takeover, and it’s over.
MJF called his shot ahead of this match, saying he’d win with a Side Headlock Takeover – and he told a stretched truth. This match proved he’s more than just a promo once again. MJF with his working boots on is incredible, and Allin is perhaps his best foil. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** ¾)
AAA World Tag Team Champions vs. AEW World Tag Team Champions
The Lucha Bros have already lost one set of tag team championships to FTR, that being the AAA Tag Team Championships. Now, they would call out FTR for a match at Full Gear. The AEW World Tag Team Championships are on the line tonight, and Lucha Bros also hope to teach FTR a lesson about them making a mockery of lucha libre. If anyone can follow that opener – it’s these teams.
The Lucha Bros were decked out in camo, ready for a war with FTR. They’re dialed in, and their massive pyro is as much a show of intimidation as it gets the fans excited. Things started with Harwood & Penta, trading chops in the middle of the ring. Harwood got two off a roll up before a two off a cradle pin. Wheeler saved Harwood from falling to a cradle from Penta, before Fenix tagged in.
Wheeler would meet him and take heavy chops before a huge lucha arm drag and some rushing strikes. FTR would get Fenix outside, and that would allow them to slow the pace down. Penta would get a tag after Fenix was punished and nailed some slingblades, before Fenix saved him from a double suplex. FTR was stacked in the corner for a Monkey Flip into a Cannonball Senton from Lucha Bros, before a double thrust kick got two.
FTR Run Out Of Tricks
Penta would get Harwood in the corner for some punches to the face, but Wheeler helped Harwood turn this into a stungun off the top rope – all while Tully Blanchard ran the distraction. Wheeler would tie the mask of Penta to the bottom rope, a trick we’ve seen before but Rick Knox would free him.
Some tight uppercuts would land from Harwood to Penta, who was desperate from a tag. FTR would use their tactics to make Knox miss the tag to Fenix, before taking a DDT from Penta to allow the tag in view of the referee. A jumping knee strike in the corner would rock Harwood, before a double cutter got a two count.
Wheeler would use the AAA Tag Team Championship belt to slam Fenix in the face, and Harwood nailed a brainbuster – and still no fall. Now Fenix is fired up. They’d nail Grand Amplitude, a shout out to one of their best feuds, but only two. Couldn’t get the pop Jordan did. Big Rig was countered, but Harwood would go for the three amigos, only to be blocked and Penta would show him how it’s done. Fenix closed out with a Frog Splash for a two count.
FTR would block the Fear Factor attempt, and get the Mindbreaker for a two count. Something would need to end this one, and a double jump fear factor into a crossbody was close – but no cigar. Los Superanas were in the fight now, with some tricky afoot, Wheeler the illegal man looking for a pin with the ropes. Fear Factor landed, and this one was over.
A fast paced and absolutely insane tag team match. Their match on Dynamite was not the best, but this made up for it 100%. Two of the best tag teams in the world, and they thrive with massive spotfests. It was not FTR’s match type, but they thrived all the same. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
