Philadelphia 76ers star point guard, Ben Simmons, has not played at all this season while he waits for a trade to another team. Recent rumors suggest that the Houston Rockets may be the team to facilitate this trade.
Ben Simmons has not been happy since the playoffs last season in which not only did they lose the series, but Simmons did not play anywhere near his expectations, let alone the level of an all-star.
Ben Simmons Trade Rumor
After the postseason meltdown where he averaged about 8 points in the last 4 games of the series with the Atlanta Hawks, the coach of the 76ers publicly talked about how Simmons was not playing well and alluded to him being the reason why the team lost.
This led Simmons to feel like he wasn’t wanted with the team and demand a trade in the offseason to another team.
While talks about his trade have been quiet, a trade to the Houston Rockets for a combination of experienced veterans, young players, and most importantly, future draft picks are rumored to be on the table.
Thoughts on Potential Ben Simmons Trade
Throughout Simmons’s career, he has been praised for his size, a 6-11 player playing a position on the floor reserved for the shortest players, his first-team all-defensive NBA talent, superior passing skills, and his driving and close-range scoring ability.
The biggest knock-on Simmons’ skill set is his lack of mid-range and three-point shooting that makes his offensive game one dimensional and hurts the team down the stretch when they really need someone other than superstar center Joel Embiid to step up.
This trade would be a gift and a curse for Simmons because like most players, most likely he wants to get traded to a team with playoff hopes. The Rockets have one of the worse records in the league.
Even his fit with the team is questionable. While the Rockets are loaded with young talent, the position that he plays would cause the Rockets to shuffle the lineup of two of their young cornerstones to fit his need. Also, the 76ers would get be severely under-compensated for a player of Simmon’s caliber.
The Rockets still have disgruntled point guard, John Wall, on their roster but his name did not come up in this trade rumor.
