When it comes to independent wrestling in 2021, it’s quickly entering what could be considered another boom period. Between all the free agents coming from WWE & Ring of Honor, to fans seeking some new and exciting promotions after pandemic restrictions have loosened up, things have never been better. We are seeing promotions like House of Glory book massive main event matches like Amazing Red vs. Malakai Black, but the true kings of the indies right now has to be Game Changer Wrestling (GCW).
The promotion is mostly known for deathmatches, even some including former WWE Intercontinental Champion Matt Cardona, but they offer an amazing variety of action. This has come to make them one of the hottest promotions in North America, a fact that can’t be disputed with their upcoming show in an iconic venue selling out.
One Of The Biggest Crowds In Hammerstein Ballroom HIstory Will Forever Belong To GCW
Considering GCW like many other indies, used to draw in about 50 fans into a bar or arcade? They have come a long way. This is shown with the fact that they have sold all available tickets for The WRLD On GCW, which will take place in the Hammerstein Ballroom. Everyone from Ring of Honor to WWE have run this arena, but GCW are reporting that this will be the biggest crowd for a wrestling show in the venue’s history.
Making things even better, this show sold out on the hype of the promotion alone. No matches have been announced at this time, with the show not coming until January 23rd, 2022. There are many stops for GCW along the way, with some big matches coming – but nothing for The WRLD on GCW. We can assume they are going to bust out a megacard for the ages, and have all their championships on the line – and possibly even belts from other promotions.
Currently, the GCW World Championship is held by Jon Moxley, while the GCW Tag Team Championships are held by The Briscoes. Even just big matches for these champions would send fans home happy, but it’s likely they will instead go above and beyond and live up to their name at this show.
