George Clooney has been criticised for his comments on the ‘Rust’ shooting, which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
George Clooney Slammed For Speaking On The Rust Shooting-‘The Pot Calling The Kettle Black’
The incident sent shockwaves across the globe, given that Alec Baldwin was under the impression that the gun was not loaded. It transpired that this was anything but the case.
Therefore, there have been question marks over whether guns should be outlawed on set, in addition to the use of police presence. And yet, for George, things had to be done much more meticulously by people taking self-responsibility on the set.
During an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, George said: “Every single time I’m handed a gun on the set — every time — they hand me a gun, I look at it.
“I open it, I show it to the person I’m pointing it to, I show it to the crew. Every single take.” In addition, George revealed some of the safety measures that he employs before firing a gun.
One of those included pointing the gun at the ground and shooting it six times in order to ensure that there are no live bullets. Although George admitted that he is not really aware of Alec, he prayed that Alec did those similar sorts of safety manoeuvres.
He added: “Hopefully, he did do that. But the problem is dummies are tricky because they look like real [rounds]. They got a little tiny hole in the back [from which] somebody’s [removed] the gunpowder.”
Nevertheless, George was slammed on social media for his stance. This is because he has been involved in films that have glamorised the use of guns. Take, for example, his role in ‘The Peacemaker’ in 1997.
Despite the relatively innocent name, George was in various scenes involving the use of guns which naturally popularised them. In response, several people called him out over it.
One person on Twitter wrote: “Yea? I don’t remember George or anyone on ‘Money Monster’ showing me a gun was safe to use,” while another stated: “The pot calling the kettle black.”
George should shy away from such violent movies if he wants to be taken seriously. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below. Remember to stay up to date with the latest news on TheOvertimer. Don’t forget to visit Screen Juicer for great videos, news, and gameplay!
